    When I had this problem, I did indeed re-download and burn a separate copy. I also tested the CD on another computer and it worked fine.

    I am using a different computer now so can't file a bug...

    In the end I had to give up and download 11.04 instead. I installed that and then immediately updated it to 11.11. A bit cumbersome, but I couldn't find a solution to do it directly.

    That's done it! Yes, something I did had disabled the Unity plugin - obviously I wasn't aware of how important it was. Thanks for your help :)

    I was trying to enable 3-D effects, such as the cube, through compiz and after doing so I have lost all useful access to the system. All that I have is a line at the top for File, Edit etc....

    When I try to boot from the CD, after a few seconds from turning on the computer and it reading the CD, it gets caught in a loop of going between red, blue, green, white and black screens eternally....

    Ubuntu has progressively got slower and slower. When I first installed it, it was lightening fast. That's why I feel playing around with the BIOS settings won't do much good.
