[ubuntu] Re: Unity faster than normal?

I too usually run gtkperf after a driver or kernel update. Honestly the variance is typically negligible with the kernel version changes.

I was surprised yesterday after I'd compiled the latest...
  2. Re: Discussion - https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Unity-ReplaceDodgeWindowsBehavior

@isaacj87: Unity 5.18 has been moved to precise-updates. I hope you'll still be building the patched version in your ppa.

The minimize-on-click behavior is hard to be without, even for a few...
  3. Re: What do you want to see added or improved for Quantal Quetzal?

Only true for non-LTS releases. For an LTS (e.g. 12.04), Ubuntu syncs with Debian testing, rather then unstable. This starts off the LTS dev cycle with the added stability of prior upstream bugfixes....
  4. Re: What you would like to see, changed or fixed in Precise Pangolin ?

I am well aware there are a lot of lines of code comprising unity :)

What I am interested in is:

You've got me very curious with this statement. It may be where? Where is this commented...
  5. Re: What you would like to see, changed or fixed in Precise Pangolin ?

What sources are you referencing for this? I would be awfully excited to see this as an option in PP.

This (commonly expected) functionality has been WONTFIX from the Unity team. Back in Natty,...

  7. Re: How many times a day do you accidentally bring up the Unity bar?

Regarding maximized windows, the corner-reveal method of revealing the dock only works as a product of yet another usability flaw of Unity - the close button does not obey Fitt's law:...
  8. Re: How many times a day do you accidentally bring up the Unity bar?

I can't even imagine intentionally choosing to auto-hide the unity dock for this very reason. We use Ubuntu live cd's frequently at work to quickly verify certain aspects of hardware on new builds....
  9. Poll: Re: Unity has got the looks down. It just needs customization options and fine-tuning

    I could not agree more!
  10. Poll: Re: Unity has got the looks down. It just needs customization options and fine-tuning

Being a function-before-fashion kind of guy myself, I need Unity to work well (for me) more than I need it to sit there and look pretty. I really need unity to stay out of my way and not be such an...

Re: Recovery Mode boots to root promt

    Hmm...seemed to have double-posted.

Anyway, I think that you (effenberg0x0) are missing the point of my post. I was letting the OP know the simplest way to alleviate his concern and also what...

Re: Recovery Mode boots to root promt

The windows/hex method are irrelevant if you can't boot an operating environment.

The paperclip method sounds handy if you really want to brick the thing for good!

Re: Recovery Mode boots to root promt

As stated by others this has long been accepted as the default behavior. It's very difficult to protect against physical access.

The first thing I do to mitigate the issue is to set a root...

[SOLVED] Re: 10.04 LTS "hibernate" doesn't

Suspend works regardless if a swap partition is defined as it's stored to memory (RAM). Hibernation requires HDD space allocated.
  15. Poll: Re: The poll, who's really using RB and hate indicators

Ditto. So in that sense I guess I like it since I'm able to do this.

[all variants] Re: import podcasts with rhythmbox

Did you ever get an answer to this or figure it out? I am trying to do exactly what you described. I am trying to import archived podcasts and have them show up in rhythmbox.
  19. [ubuntu] Re: Places/Search for files not showing all files - question

Are you using Places > Search for Files... ? This should provide identical results to the terminal find command as it's just a GUI front-end for the same.
  20. [ubuntu] Re: Places/Search for files not showing all files - question

Try searching for bash_history as that is the filename I think you are referring to.
