    The change volume I think would drive me crazy because all of the system's sounds would change.

    I guess I will have to edit the wav and lowers its volume. audacity or amplify you say?....

    As discovered, not all apps are going to look at your hosts file. And any malware will surely not. It would be more effective to block the sites at the iptables level instead of the hosts file.
