Do you think we should try to add modes (which I tried and failed both using xrandr and xorg) or try to get Ubuntu to properly recognize the card? I tried editing the xorg.conf and saw no changes...

There are number of Ubuntu users and "would be" sellers that might want to stay within Ubuntu and not have to also have a Windows machine to bulk list on Ebay, their own shopping cart or Google base....
I think that there is an IE emulator which is part of WINE so you have to install WINE. Otherwise I have not heard of installing Internet Explorer on Ubuntu.
