What exactly happens when you try to resize the partition during the Ubuntu installation?
Why not do the resizing while installing Ubuntu rather than resizing and then installing.
When preparing the disk Ubuntu gives you the option to resize your Windows partition.
Try this:

sudo mknod devices/my_cons s 5 1

Hello...
More information would really help. Like on what step are you stuck or what message you are getting.
Try
sudo apt-get -f install
Look for it in synaptic package manager.
scp -P 2200 /home/ryad/test.txt ryad@192.168.1.11:Documents/
Hi...
I am connected remotely to my server via ssh but I cannot transfer any file using scp.
I get an error message ssh: connect to host 192.168.1.100 port 2220: No route to host
Any ideas...
Did you open the ports in your firewall?
The OP wants to try the cd without installing it. The alternate cd doesn't do that as far as I know.
Check the md5sum of your cd.

Your error message is saying that the application you are trying to install is not 32 bit.
Why do you not install vlc from the repos
sudo apt-get install vlc
Post the output of
uname -m
Can you post the output of
cat /etc/apt/sources.list
