Also, wanted to add: play this game with the lights off and a great set of headphones. The sound design is amazing. The whole vibe of the game is so creepy!

    Kentucky Route Zero

    Hey everyone,

Just played an incredible game released native to Linux call 'Kentucky Route Zero'. Has anyone else had a chance to play this? It's not for everyone, I admit, as the pacing is a...

Since I've owned this laptop I have not been able to get rid of a faint, yet incredibly annoying buzz during audio playback. Does anyone else have this problem? Have they found a solution? It's...

What type of wireless card do you have? For my Intel Wifi 5300, I was able to turn on wireless power management via:

    sudo iwconfig wlan0 power on

The fan is still slow to respond to changes...

    Re: Gnome 3.0..

Try deleting the gnome-shell directory and pulling it from scratch. When I tried it, the build phase was still flakey, and only worked after several attempts.

  10. [ubuntu] Re: Antialiased fonts in Emacs on Ubuntu 9.04

Here is the Emacs Wiki: http://www.emacswiki.org/emacs/XftGnuEmacs

Note that emacs doesn't use anti-aliased fonts by default. You have to explicitly tell it to use an anti-aliased font (like...
  11. [ubuntu] Re: Are emacs and vi still the best editors for programmers?

The great thing about emacs is how utterly extensible it is. For example here is one of my favourite modes that provides IDE functionality: Emacs Code Browser

If Xresources is too much trouble, you can also set your font in your .emacs file with the following two lines:

I just don't see how those two commands would screw up your desktop. Certainly you shouldn't have to delete all those gnome settings. Is it possible that something else is hogging your CPU? npviewer...

Re: Are humans reaching the end of the line?

This doesn't make any sense. The two urns model is not applicable because at no point in history did we choose between "two possible human races".
  19. Re: Any good ssh - compatible file manager out there?

    Have you tried sshfs? http://fuse.sourceforge.net/sshfs.html

It allows you to mount shares locally via ssh. Then you can use whatever file browser you like best. sshfs is in the Ubuntu repos.

After installing Jaunty, my wireless card is being properly reported as a Wifi 5300, and not a 5100, as with Intrepid. I guess that solves that mystery.
