    Nope,
    yep,
    I extracted first in a new folder called "Programs" in my home dir, then in the home dir and again in desktop, which is basically in home anyway and the executable wouldn't work...

    Thanks but Software Center only has Blender 2.69,I have been down this road with 12.04.

    Could it be as a result of my encrypting my home folder? 12.04 is not encrypted.

    In 12.04 I simply extract the Blender 2.71 tar.bz in my home folder open the file and run the program.
    In 14.04 this doesn't work, could it be as a result of my encrypting my home folder? 12.04...

    The setup is intended to be stand alone so I can boot it up on any machine.

    /dev/sda1 is extended 457.04GB allocated boot
    4MB unallocated preceding and 8GB unallocated at the end

    Ok reconfigured Hard drive (external usb 500GB) to the following

    sda5 26GB 12.04
    sda6 26GB 13.10
    sda7 4GB swap
    sda8 4GB swap
    sda9 440GB mnt/data

    reisntalling 12.04 now.
