  1. [SOLVED] Re: How to change screen resolution on SliTaz 3.0

If running from the live cd, use the boot parameter: slitaz screen=<height>x<width>x<colours>

ie "slitaz screen=1280x1024x24" minus the quotes
  2. Re: The shell way or the highway [long rant]

I haven't been on this forum for a while. There are just too many other things to do with my life to worry overly much about my computer, much less anyone else's. But I think this actually gives me...

Re: Ways to pimp out your Linux Desktop?

This topic was made for me...

    1. Install preferred distro. Currently favoring SliTaz and NetBSD.
    2. Download and compile musca with custom config.h (which I have backed up and attached).

    Re: How is Mandriva?

Mandriva's package manager is called urpmi. Fedora uses yum.
  6. Re: Should people be forced to use free software apps in order to participate in Ubun

I don't think that free tools are a must, but free formats are essential to allow collaboration.

Re: Why do people put vi in tutorials?

    1. Copy/pasting commands without understanding them is a bad idea.

    2. I believe that telling them is the right idea, which is why I think instructions should just say "Edit this file and add xyz"....

Re: Why do people put vi in tutorials?

Not every user of a given distro will know how to use it, but I can pretty much guarantee that it won't work for anyone if it isn't there.

    Re: viruses?

The "truth" is that security is up to you. Read the link above and work to gain some understanding of your system.
  10. Re: What Firefox Version do you use, and why?

3.0.8, and hopefully always the latest version now that it's being packaged in a simpler way in SliTaz.

    I usually prefer elinks.

EDIT: init1, you should upgrade your system. The previous...

Poll: Re: What Feature You Like In Your Distro

I was going to say updates, but since I'm the new security maintainer that struck me as a bit egotistical :)

Overall, I love the packaging tools in SliTaz. Tazwok just makes it so easy to create...

I don't use a desktop environment. My current favorite is the lightweight tiling window manager musca.

Re: Why do people put vi in tutorials?

I don't see why they should include an editor at all. If it is deliberately geared toward new users, a suggestion could be made (I would probably recommend nano), but in general "Edit this file" is...
  15. Re: What do you like about Linux and Opensource?

I answered this question in another thread:

I have since found another reason: it is amazingly easy to get involved with some open source projects. I'm now contributing to SliTaz and getting a...

  17. Re: Reminder: Social engineering still works on Linux

ActiveX was a bad idea in the first place and is the primary reason that I never condone the use of Internet Explorer. A limited user account can still mitigate most of the danger.

Paldo is quasi-source based. I wasn't a fan of their unusual packaging, but they have the nicest GNOME implementation I've seen.
