Re: I get errors when doing "apt update"

Ah! OK, forget my wireless-info script idea in that case.

Problems with ethernet are unusual but try running command
ping -c 10 172.217.169.78 and the follow with
    ping -c 10 google.com
    These...

Re: I get errors when doing "apt update"

I believe the webupd8 ppa repos have all stopped now so they must be removed; I've never heard of the bintray repo; what was it for?

For your wireless problem see Wireless-info in my signature...
  3. Re: Focal Fossa updates - unattended upgrades dialog - nothing happens

Maybe not something I would recommend to all but unattended-upgrades package is something that can easily be removed from your system with no problems arising from so doing, provided, of course, that...
  4. Re: Ubunto 20.0.4 No sound at all, have tried many commandlines to no avail

You say you have tried all sorts of things to get audio but give us no detail of what those things were. Give us much more detail of what you've tried already and we may be able to give you better...
  5. [ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu 20.04 Firefox error no Flash plugin

Do you actually go to sites that work only with flash? I don't think I have had it installed now for a very long time and never see any notifications that flash is needed.

    I'm not on my Xubuntu...
  6. [kubuntu] Re: Default panel freezes when video is played in full screen

You say "full screen" but do you really mean "maximised window" which would mean the panel is still visible?

As SeijiSensei says, if running full screen you can not view anything other than the...

[lubuntu] Re: permission to make new folder

If you realĺy want to change the hostname of your machine it's just a couple of system files, /etc/host and /etc/hostname that need editing. They are both simple text files so easy to edit.
  8. [SOLVED] Re: my multiple os desktop computer is not having the option to load fedora at startu

If your file manager shows the fedora partition in the left hand pane click on it and it may mount.

Is your fedora install using lvm which many years ago was the default at installation or is it...

    Re: Qemu-KVM virtual machine storage.

I followed the info at https://dev.to/guinuxbr/convert-ova-to-qcow2-48f2 to convert the ova to qcow2 and I am surprised to find that Windows 10 works very much better using KVM than it does in VBox....

    Re: Qemu-KVM virtual machine storage.

I am trying the Windows-10 import just as an experiment, not because I need it for anything; I haven't really used Windows properly for 15 years so this is just a "for interest" exercise.

    Watch...

    Re: Qemu-KVM virtual machine storage.

Just a quick update for all who have given me such useful information.

I've now been using KVM/qemu for virtualising Linux Mint for just over a week and I'm very impressed. Graphics are better...

    Re: Blu-ray Authoring

Most, if not all blu-ray players will also play normal DVDs, I believe, so why not simply create a DVD?

[xubuntu] Re: Extracting data from recently-used.xbel?

Dolphin is not installed in Xubuntu by default; to do so will need 149 extra packages to be installed on my default Xubuntu-20.04 system, mainly because dolphon requires a lot of the KDE/qt libs etc....

[xubuntu] Re: Extracting data from recently-used.xbel?

You can open those ~/.local/share/recently-used.xbel files, of which I have many, using a text-editor, and you could then get the information you needed, though perhaps not quite in the way you're...
  15. [ubuntu] Re: Very long boot time on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS

Let's see a bit more detail of your startup with command
systemd-analyze blame and we can try to move on from there.

    Just another thought.
You do not say what sort of SSD or its make that you...
  16. [ubuntu] Re: Very long boot time on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS

Sounds as if you may need to update the UEFI firmware, something I've never yet had to do so I'll have to leave you to do your own search on that, and to read the computer manual, if you have one.
  17. [SOLVED] Re: Blank Pages on Epson Inkjet L130 on Lubuntu 20.04

The printers that use a tank system seem much more prone to this ink jet drying problem if you print very seldom, as I used to, so I moved to a printer where the jet is part of the cartridge itself....

[ubuntu] Re: Installing scripts for GIMP

If you're running the snap version of gimp your problem may be related to that type of installation; snaps are often very limited and I am aware that gimp plugins will not work in the snap version,...

Re: XFCE extends beyond the screen

Is this a laptop or desktop with separate monitor?

If a laptop have you a monitor you can attach it to and check the resolution you get for that.

    Great news!

I have messaged the PPA owner again giving thanks for this speedy update.
  22. Re: Is it possible to make one or more of these changes to apt and snap integration?

If you use synaptic it tells you a lot more than the software-store, or whatever it's now called, which I have never used.
  23. Re: Is it possible to make one or more of these changes to apt and snap integration?

    Not at the moment.

In the example you chose, chromium, there is no apt, ie .deb package to use in place of the snap version which is installed even if you use sudo apt install chromium.

    There...

  25. [SOLVED] Re: can anyone reccomend a lightweight program to cut videos?

I am not sure about that but often it does not make much difference where options are in the command. However, when I've used ffmpeg for this and other things, I always put the -acodec copy -vcodec...
