you can right click on the taskbar and go to properties. Then go to the background tab and there should be a slider for transparency
i would just go for a clean install. it's the best way to have a stable machine.

There is still a battery issue. I can get up to 9:55 hours in 9.10, but only 4:05 on 10.04
