Hello UF,
I have had no luck setting up the following configuration on my Ubuntu 12.04 machine. I have a directory that users can copy files over to work on. I want to setup the permissions in...
Get X-Plane, it's inexpensive and far better than anything I've seen out there.
It makes sense to target the largest amount of devices possible with a single interface. Even if the interface isn't perfectly adapted to any one environment, it's the only chance Ubuntu has to make...
We use it quite a bit in Physics. Mostly Linux and Mac boxes where I used to attend.
I'm really enjoying 11.10. I've been using Ubuntu since 2006 and don't miss GNOME 2 much.
There are a few irritating bugs that spring up once in while, but nothing painful.
Hello All,
I have custom software that requires TCP/UDP connections. The server is listening however the client elsewhere on the network cannot connect. This seems to be the general trend, I...
Not necessarily. I do admit they work very well together but a few older T42 laptops have been quirky with Ubuntu.
Asus shipped linux drivers on their motherboard driver disc for sound and...
Vista was absolutely trash the final straw was when a cryptic error during a software installation forced me to swap out my new DVD drive with another.
Windows 7 was a great improvement for it...
I don't get the pessimism either. Desktop linux isn't dead or dying. I see it's install base growing around me and it's de facto in my field of work given all the legacy apps. Even if the market...
I applied the fix, I really hope it works since this bug is crippling my system.
The problem is in console-kit.

This problem really needs to be fixed soon. There really is no work around.
I've seen a few wireless and cable adapters with tux on it.
The last crash I have had in Linux that I couldn't attribute to anything I've done was with Ubuntu 6.10. I actually needed to restart the computer. It's really taken for granted how stable Linux is....
I filed the bug report, please sign into launchpad and click the icon beside "Does this bug affect you?" to indicate it does.

Another possible symptom, I can't use "unlock" in configuration applets. Possible issue with policy-kit and device-kit.
I would report this to launchpad but I don't have a clue what to report it as.
Any suggestions? I'm going to try some experiments to see if I can reliably duplicate the problem.
This is a clean install.
This is a really weird issue. I'm using 10.04 and on occasion when I boot into Ubuntu the sound doesn't work along with losing the ability to shutdown via the menu. When I click shutdown it just logs...
The last time I used it was as a student (version 7) and have never owned a copy. I used Corel PainShop when I was on Windows until I discovered GIMP. Most people I know, unless they got it though...
> $1000 software isn't as bad as you think. These software packages are not geared towards the home user but rather design firms. For example AutoCAD licenses I use are very expensive per PC but a...
8.10 didn't run at all on my new laptop. New versions of Ubuntu did work. Why not install 9.10 for the moment. If you have an new nVidia chipset it's hopeless on version of Ubuntu like 8.10.
If you want to make nice GUIs and want and extensive amount of controls available wxPython fits the bill. There are many applications in Ubuntu written with it. You can also use wxGlade in the repos...
Oh yeah I had fun with that too.
Thanks for the reply. I've played around with Blender a bit, not making games but playing existing ones. The graphics and performance are better than most of the other engines. Along the lines of...
