  1. Re: Turning application binary into installed software

From a brief reading I understand that Second Life is some form of avatar game.
You could package custom app in Electron wrapper.
You would need to run a subprocess.
  2. [ubuntu] Re: recurring hard drive corruption all of a sudden on two different computers!

Either point at a common factor such as kernel
    or
if malicious files are passed between these two devices
it might pay to check both devices as documented here.

    sudo rkhunter --checkall

  3. [ubuntu] Re: fan running wild for years and a message that popped up and I clicked, seem to fi

    Two separate ideas to try:

Install gkrellm as another monitor of temperature(s).

Install tlp .. some write that it tames the fan.

[P.S.] A search for your message in post#1 found this answer...
  4. Re: i want to run my own script at splash page time

    Another experiment.
If you install rEFIND to sit in /boot/efi/EFI/refind/
you will find a ton of options in the refind.conf file
including selecting your own splash theme and running scripts.
  5. [ubuntu] Re: How can I connect to SFTP using Nautilus (Files)

    Re: reverse SSH tunnelling

I have not tried this myself but as I understand the article the general idea is not to SSH from local to remote, but rather the reverse (from remote to local) then...
  6. [ubuntu] Re: How can I connect to SFTP using Nautilus (Files)

Now I have just read about this approach .. reverse SSH tunnelling
  7. [ubuntu] Re: How can I connect to SFTP using Nautilus (Files)

    Perhaps they use this ploy?
  8. [ubuntu] Re: How can I connect to SFTP using Nautilus (Files)

    Try this guide

    And a further thought.

You wrote "I've managed to make the CLI commands work. It's only Nautilus that's giving me problems!"

Can you open terminal from within Nautilus (right...
  9. [ubuntu] Re: How can I connect to SFTP using Nautilus (Files)

Do you have write permissions on that server?
  10. [ubuntu] Re: How can I connect to SFTP using Nautilus (Files)

Another user with same problem .. but no answer ..

    https://askubuntu.com/questions/1251293/nautilus-from-20-04-will-not-remember-custom-extensions-on-sftp

    Another reference ..

  11. [ubuntu] Re: How can I connect to SFTP using Nautilus (Files)

If I were in your shoes I would jump out of this alligator pit and try Nautilus in a newly created guest user account to test if the same problems arise. Or even in Ubuntu in a fresh virtual machine...
  12. [ubuntu] Re: How can I connect to SFTP using Nautilus (Files)

My idea was a blind alley following this old thread.

Your proxy mode is 'none'. If it had been set to 'auto' we might have pursued it further.
  13. [ubuntu] Re: How can I connect to SFTP using Nautilus (Files)

    A further outlier experiment:
Back in post #23 I referred to a link which I lost.

    I have found it.

Without giving any promises of success, can you run this command and post results for...
  14. [ubuntu] Re: How can I connect to SFTP using Nautilus (Files)

The thinking was .. if it works in Thunar then the issue is with Nautilus.
If not then it is in SSH configuration.
Process of elimination. Then you can resume focus on on Nautilus.
  15. Re: set Ubuntu back to a "recovery point!?

The equivalent might be "versioned backups".
Search the forum (advanced search) targeting posts by the user - TheFu - who is an advocate on this subject.
This will also give you experience in using...
  16. [ubuntu] Re: Failed to set MokListRT: Invalid Parameter - I am scuppered!

Try installing ReFIND as suggested in above link.
    It will install into /boot/efi/EFI/refind
    and complements existing boot installation.
  17. [ubuntu] Re: How can I connect to SFTP using Nautilus (Files)

This is one tutorial I came across ..

    https://brinchmann.wordpress.com/2014/03/08/tutorial-how-to-use-sftp-with-keys-with-in-nautilus/

it refers to ssh-add and I was about to post it here.

    Gigolo only applies...
  19. [ubuntu] Re: How can I connect to SFTP using Nautilus (Files)

I confess that I do not often use Nautilus. Prefer Krusader with UserActions (plugins).
However. Can you perhaps try a toolchain? Nautilus > Thunar .. or Thunar directly.
    From Nautilus select...
  20. [ubuntu] Re: Bad Sectors - CAN NOT save the data on the HDD

O.K. ditch that idea .. although the author seems to know his stuff (but on old HDD's).

    But R-Linux is risk free.
  21. Re: How do I get rid of activities bar at bottom of screen in Ubuntu 20.04?

You could try Docky which only pops up when you mouse over that area.
  22. [ubuntu] Re: Bad Sectors - CAN NOT save the data on the HDD

If you are willing to gamble about $90 (I repeat, gamble) I have read that a very old app SpinRite at grc.com has provided HDD recovery for some enthusiasts. But only from what I have read. I have...
  23. [ubuntu] Re: No USB Drive, need to install Ubuntu (HELP)

If you have Windows 10 then Ubuntu is already on your drive.
It is named WSL or later version WSL2.

And you can run Linux apps in RollApp.com if it is a temporary requirement.

[SOLVED] Re: Old hard drive not reconized

I find that a dual docking bay with plugin drives/SSD's is convenient to use and for backups.
I purchased Startech dual docking bay with its own power supply.
I can plugin new SSD's or old HDD's....

    Re: Wiping write protected USB

Perhaps you have not set boot flags (as just one thought).
I would inspect the drive using gparted.
In fact, by coincidence, I am about to refresh an old USB drive to hold a fresh download of...
