Re: Firefox update - change of appearance

Yep, I feel the same way about the Ubuntu build. Very nice. Actually, after fiddling around with FF29 for a few days, I'm growing to like it more and more, even the standard non-Ubuntu version.

    Re: "Replace Fedora" replaced everything

I've never run Win 8, and don't intend to. I do, however, have one of my machines in a dual boot with Win 7 simply so I can game with games I have that don't run on Linux and I won't be bothered to...
  3. Re: Rolling Release Best Choice for XP Replacements

Update packs on rolling release distros can break a system, especially huge update pack offerings. The last time I checked, LMDE had some pretty large update packs, and there were quite a number of...

    Re: I'm Leaving

I'm with you on this one. I'm hanging on to my S3 until Ubuntu phones are available with my carrier. I'm so ready. I hope they don't take forever to arrive so I have to grab something else in the...
  5. Re: No Nvidia HDMI audio option in Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

When I installed 14.04, I just added the parts in grub between the quotes for AMD HDMI with my 6850. It's working fine for me. Your mileage may vary.

    Re: Is Windows bad?

Windows is not bad. For every linux installation, I have a Windows VM. But I don't want Windows running my machine, though.

    Re: I'm Leaving

I've often wondered why people announce on various boards that they're leaving/quitting or whatever. Why not just quietly go away? Do they seek validation? It doesn't make a lot of sense.

Re: How is windows 7/8 on a virtual machine?

Oh, I know. I've had it installed under Linux before. But I've already got the VM for other things so why not use it for Netflix, too? I generally leave the VM up in another workspace, so it's...

Re: Will 14.04 become the 'MSVista' of Ubuntu?

Not a very good trolling effort on the part of the OP.

Re: How is windows 7/8 on a virtual machine?

I'm running Ubuntu 14.04 on one of my desktops, an AMD 965 quad core with 4GB RAM. I have a Win 7 VM in Virtualbox, using 1.5GB RAM. It runs fast, smooth and problem free. I use it mostly for...

Re: Linux-friendly USB headphones and microphone

Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse here, too. I didn't have to install a thing. It just worked out of the box. Ubuntu detected them right away and it was off to the races. It's the way it...

    Re: Trusty Tahr wallpaper

I have to say, I kind of like the second one, as well. Sort of minimalist on the tahr front.

Re: Unity, great or bad, and why?

It's neither great nor bad. It's just a DE like all the rest. You either use it or you don't.

I don't care for it, but not because it's bad. It just doesn't suit me on a desktop. I prefer...

Re: Loosing faith in Linux / Ubuntu?

I haven't given up on Ubuntu, but I admit I run Mint Cinnamon 90% of the time. I've found it just suits me these days.

I keep thinking Unity might grow on me one of these days, but so far it...

  17. Re: Do you think that our world will be truely open?

So long as there is ridiculous money to be made with closed source, there is no chance for a truly and completely open-source world. It will, I think, become more and more open as time goes along,...

    Steam for Linux beta

I just signed up for it. I want to give this thing a shot and do what I can to help it succeed. There seems to be quite the community growing in their Linux discussion area these days, with people...
  20. Re: Now that the Unity hate has cooled down, how do you feel about the WM?

I alternate between Unity and Cinnamon depending on my mood, relying mostly on Cinnamon lately. I am so conflicted.
  21. Re: So Windows 8 is out now, ahh screw it, lets specualte on what Windows 9 will be l

To hazard a guess, I think they might want to have it so users don't have to log in to the My First Big Button Computer screen by default, but instead can choose that or the Win7-style desktop. Then...

Win8 and existing Win7 dual boots

I've got Win7 and Ubuntu dual booting with EasyBCD controlling the boot through Win7. If I "upgrade" to Win8 somewhere down the road, will it overwrite the MBR or otherwise trash my existing EasyBCD...

Re: Ubuntu 12.10 vs Windows 8 benchmark.

Not a bad article. Unfortunately, the average user probably won't be very inclined to worry about benchmarks too much, and especially with installing an OS on their own, or in dual booting.

    I...
  24. Re: Ubuntu/Windows 8 dual-booting. Anticipating support needs.

I've currently got Ubuntu 12.04 installed alongside Win 7, using EasyBCD to control booting. My question is whether, if I decide to "upgrade" to Win 8 in the future, the upgrade process will mess...

Re: Ubuntu PC sales skyrocket ..

The big question is whether Ubuntu remains on the laptops for use, or whether it is wiped clean, the drive re-formatted, and pirated Windows installed. Linux machines are probably a tad bit cheaper.
