  1. Re: Have any software disk activity in systray displaying read and write activity ?

Hmm, due to continuous system logs, a disk activity indicator is kinda useless on a UNIX system.

[SOLVED] Re: curious - transfer from one drive/ssd

Note that using shred on a solid state device is not a good idea (various reasons - don't want to get into a long discussion about it now).

There are multiple ways to clone a disk (as simple as...
  3. Re: stupid crossed out circle keeps appearing on my screen randomly every couple seco

Hmm - you probably pressed and poked the HDMI cable, or shifted the screen and now all signals are making proper contact again.
  4. Re: stupid crossed out circle keeps appearing on my screen randomly every couple seco

It is your screen doing that. It is not a problem with Linux or the computer.

You should try a new HDMI cable for the screen.
  5. [ubuntu] Re: when writing in hebrew in Writer the period appears on the other side

Maybe, you need to use a Hebrew period, not the normal period?
  6. Re: Is possible use 2 mount point in same partition ?

"I want to avoid fragmentation in /var" - Fragmentation is not a problem with modern file systems.
"cache buffer" - The operating system already does that.

Re: Adding block lists to hosts file.

"I don't have any kind of network and I'm not on a network. Just a stand alone pc." - Except for a few billion other machines on the internet... ;)

You need not worry about the hosts file too...

Re: Adding block lists to hosts file.

BTW, I use a hosts file by Dan Pollock on all my machines:
    https://someonewhocares.org/hosts/zero/hosts

It is pretty good and gets rid of about 99.9999% of all cruft on the net, your computer...

Re: Problems using applications on VNC

  11. Re: Cannot mount Samba share from Ubuntu or Android

  12. Re: how to find out if printer has draft mode in Ubuntu before purchasing?

Ask HP tech support - they supply the Linux drivers for their printers.
  13. Re: Cannot mount Samba share from Ubuntu or Android

In my experience, the best way to debug samba issues is from the command line with smbclient. The error messages will tell you exactly what the matter is and if smbclient doesnít work, any other...
  14. Re: how to find out if printer has draft mode in Ubuntu before purchasing?

    Howdy,

In general, all HP printers are supported - I have never found one that isn't.

That being said, the cost of printing with a laser printer is very low (<5c / pg), so it probably won't...

    Re: Deja Dup

DejaDup probably works for most people and it is maintained, but I found weird issues, similar to what you seem to be complaining about.

As far as I can remember, DejaDup only runs when the user...

    Re: Prohibited sign meaning?

Btw, try booting from the install media and go to the desktop, but donít do anything - just let it sit and see whether the sign pops up again. That may tell you something.
  17. Re: Swapping? Computer gets very slow when RAM is full

BTW, any amount of tuning to change swappiness will likely make no discernable difference to your situation.

You should run 'top' or 'htop' to see which program is hogging resources and kill it....

Re: PHP mail() not delivering mail

Divide and conquer: Try debugging the problem using the mail command in a terminal. That may give you more meaningful error messages.

    Re: Backup, Backup, Backup...Please Help

  23. Re: Few generic Linux and Kubuntu questions

    Regarding file types:
UNIX systems donít care much about the filenames. You can name a JPG picture textfile.txt and it will still work. The file type is figured out by a little program called -...
  24. Re: Few generic Linux and Kubuntu questions

    [SOLVED] Re: install Radarr

Just a tip: When installing unsupported SW, it is best to make a virtual machine to experiment and instal the program. This way, you donít mess up your host system.
