  1. Re: rsync: Reliably copying files from local file system to NAS

What if you reverse the comparison in the second step comparing the files on the NAS to their origins?

[ubuntu] Re: New 20.04 LTS Install Questions

I have one dual-boot machine with Windows so I can play games on the native hardware. Otherwise I use VirtualBox.
  3. Re: rsync: Reliably copying files from local file system to NAS

I've never used --remove-source-files. If I want to delete files on the source, I use a script on that machine. Most of the time I just leave the source files alone.

    As for file checking, see...
  4. [ubuntu] Re: does this mouse is a good buy for linux?

I have only Logitech wireless hardware on four different machines. They all work flawlessly as long as you keep the batteries charged.
  5. Re: Easy Peasy Os help - installing new Webbrowser possible? Eeepc

Worse it doesn't look like you can replace the drive:

In the 2 GB and 4 GB models of the 700 series of the Eee PC, the SSD is permanently soldered to the board.

I have a Eeepc 1201N. It has an...
  6. [kubuntu] Re: Brother printer support for Kubuntu ?

Since upgrading to Kubuntu 20.04 my Brother HL-3170CDW now uses "driverless" printing. Opening http://localhost:631/ with a browser will take you to the CUPS management interface. I went to Printers...
  7. Re: rsync: Reliably copying files from local file system to NAS

I much prefer to put includes and excludes in separate plain-text files and use

    rsync -av --files-from=/usr/local/etc/rsync-includes --exclude-from=/usr/local/etc/rsync-excludes [etc.]
    You could...

How much memory do you have? How big are the graphics you are trying to edit? You could be running out of memory.

If you are using a recent version of Ubuntu, you won't have any swap enabled. ...

[SOLVED] Re: ubuntu equivalent to mapped drives

If you have a mixed network with Windows and Linux clients, you can run both Samba and NFS to share the same directories. I do that myself. Most of the time I'm running Linux and thus use NFS, but I...

Do you use the Microsoft administrative tools to manage your network? It's apparently possible to set the browser home page using the Group Policy Management Console.

  13. [SOLVED] Re: Value of reserved blocks is sometimes changed

    cd /
    du -sh *

If you mount remote filesystems from servers, you might want to add the -x parameter to limit the results to just the root filesystem.
  14. Re: How to set a particular web address as homepage for all network clients

That's not hard to do. Here, for example, are the instructions for Firefox: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-to-set-the-home-page

However this is very easy for the users to circumvent. If...
  15. Re: How to set a particular web address as homepage for all network clients

Yes. I thought that was the point.

Also you'll need to add HTTPS support to Apache since you can't redirect encrypted HTTPS requests to an unencrypted site. You'd need to add HTTPS support on the...
  16. Re: How to set a particular web address as homepage for all network clients

Well, I can see doing this with iptables rules, but I don't know how that would work with the pi-hole stuff you talked about in the other thread.

The gateway server should be running a copy of...
  17. [SOLVED] Re: What is the choice to simple workstation for video editing ? BTRFS or Reiser4 ?

Yes it was longer than that. I don't really care to change at this point. As I said ext4 is more than sufficient for my needs.
  18. [SOLVED] Re: What is the choice to simple workstation for video editing ? BTRFS or Reiser4 ?

My experience with XFS was that if the machine lost power for any reason, I would lose data. I just ext4 for everything.
  19. [ubuntu] Re: Multiple issues with Ubuntu 20.04.1

Install mpv and its excellent GUI front-end smplayer.

Honestly, if you're having this many problems, I'd just do a clean install of 20.04.1.
