    [all variants] SSH timed out during apt-get dist-upgrade

    Hi,

    I ran apt-get dist-upgrade (after apt-get update, of course) on our server then left it for a bit. I returned periodically, usually to answer a question (keep old / use new, etc). When I...

    [ubuntu] pam_mount works from CLI but not GDM

    Exactly as it says: pam_mount (with likewise open, if that makes any difference) works from CLI but not GDM. Something wrong in pam.d? I don't know enough about these files to start debugging (and...

    [SOLVED] Re: network manager applet missing in pane in 10.04

    Same problem. Network Manager applet was there (and had been for a month or so) but was gone when I rebooted. managed=true; Indicator Applet present; Notification Area present; user in netdev...

    I'm trying to integrate some Ubuntu netbooks into our network at school. Pupils and staff can log on using likewise-open authentication against a Window 2003 domain controller. Now I just need to...

    [ubuntu] Re: issue with vpnc to cisco vpn in 10.04

    I have a similar issue, or perhaps the same one.

    Connecting from the command line with my own .conf file is fine.

    Connecting using NetworkManager works as long as the box I do NOT tick the box...

    [ubuntu] Re: Setting up NTP using Webmin

    One thing to add: I also had to disable Webmin's time sync because, with ntpd working on port 123, ntpdate (used by Webmin) was unable to use the port and sent me an e-mail every hour to tell me so.

    [ubuntu] Re: Setting up NTP using Webmin

    I think I eventually gave up trying to get Webmin to play nicely with NTP and just set it up at the command line. It was pretty easy. Here are the notes I made at the time:

    Install the NTP...

    [all variants] Re: Which is the safest Linux Server Platform?

    I've only skim-read this thread, so apologies if somebody's already said it, but have a look at Bastille Linux. It's a script you run on, I think, any flavour of Linux that locks things down,...

    Same here. Cycling the power has worked for me so far... fingers crossed.

    [ubuntu] Re: Lost Network

    I, too, upgraded mine to Karmic remotely, and watched and waited. It came back up but disappeared again a few minutes later - no www, ssh or ping. I wasn't on site at the time so had it power...

    [ubuntu] Re: Apache2 multiple processes

    It doesn't really help you solve your problem, but I think it's pretty normal for Apache to have several processes running. As I understand it, they're "helper" processes - the busier your site is,...

    [ubuntu] Re: Setting up NTP using Webmin

    Now I'm wondering whether sudo ntpdate really is working at the shell. It seems to work outright but fails in debugging mode:

    [ubuntu] Re: Setting up NTP using Webmin

    Digging around has led me to /etc/webmin/time/config, which contains the following:

    timeserver_hardware=1
    seconds=1
    lease=5
    timeserver=ntp2c.mcc.ac.uk
    ntp_only=0
    zone_style=linux

    [ubuntu] Setting up NTP using Webmin

    Hi,

    The short story: Why is Webmin synchronising my Ubunut 9.04 Server's clock using the Unix TIME protocol instead of NTP?

    The long story...

    I'm running a web server on Ubuntu Server 9.04:...
