Re: Do you have an Ubuntu sticker on your car?

I do not have any stickers on my car.

My wife, however, has added several significant scratches to it in her relatively short driving career.

Re: GNOME 3: Why It Failed

Gnome Shell is a better DE than Unity. I don't like the Unity launcher. I do like the 'activities' view in GS. Unity uses about 1GB of memory post-login on my laptop. GS uses half of that; only a...

  7. [SOLVED] Re: How can I compile executables that will run on linux?

    Did anyone answer this?

Probably, yes. Since C is a subset of C++, any C program is also a C++ program. Which means any C++ compiler (and presumably C++ IDE too) should handle C just fine.
  8. [SOLVED] Re: I have Ubuntu 6.06 LTS on my PC, can I replace it with 11.10

Lubuntu and Xubuntu have far lower system requirements than Ubuntu. Ubuntu on my Thinkpad idles at 1GB memory usage - most of your memory. Xubuntu on the other hand idles at about 0.5GB.

    I'd say...

I'm not sure about the Ubuntu Software Centre, but if you use Synaptic, you can find out where the installed files are by finding the package, going to its properties, and going to the 'Installed...

You have to store times somehow. Most modern databases support their own datetime datatype, but storing times as integers is a reasonable database-independent solution. Arithmetic operations on...
  13. [ubuntu] Re: That Windows key on the keyboard... reassingning ?

The Keyboard -> Application Shortcuts manager xfce4-keyboard-settings in Xubuntu is excellent, much more usable than I remember it being to set up keyboard shortcuts in Natty under GNOME.

    [ubuntu] Re: Novatech laptops, UK

You don't really save anything by buying an OS-free laptop, unfortunately. I considered Novatech, but went for a Thinkpad (that came with W7) for the build quality. Lenovo's laptops generally play...

  24. [ubuntu] Re: problems installing Apache2, phpmyadmin on Ubuntu 10.04

How did you actually install LAMP in the first place? I would clean up the broken install, if you can. Then, I find the path of least resistance is to use tasksel.

    Make sure tasksel is actually...
