    it works for edgy...it has nothing to do with distro or version...it only depends on which filesystem you use.

    This method will not work with ext2 since ext2 is not a journaling filesystem. "noatime" will work since it has nothing to do with journaling.

    You can live without this option. Just enabled it in fstab for the ext3 filesystem. Check to see that it is enabled thrue

    sudo tune2fs -l /dev/hda1 Replace /dev/hda1 with your ext3 partition

    Alas no, it cannot. There isn't much you can do with FAT32 except to use it for a shared HD between Windows and XP.

    Well loosing more data is the downside. This method of powerdown is a bit harsch but the fuze might go.
    Since "data=..." changes when metadata is written to disc it effects how safely your data is...

    but it spits out:
    kwrite: cannot connect to X server
