  1. [ubuntu] Re: PHP cli scripts not running in background, works on other distro's - what to do?

(I know this thread is old, still it's the number one google result for the problem)
I'm just adding a link to the bug report that does exist:...
  2. [ubuntu] Re: Gnome panel ignored when maximizing on dual screen.

You probably have found it already, but, this is https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/metacity/+bug/58977 . I stopped using the maximise button because of this... Sad...

[ubuntu] Re: unrar slow - Common problem?

I also see this. And i think it's not unrar that is slow, the problem is that the file is *terribly* fragmented. Was it downloaded with transmission?

Please check filefrag output in a terminal,...

This is okay. No output means everything worked fine.

    Does nautilus start now?
  7. [gnome] Re: NetworkManager Applet 0.7.0 shows duplicates of NICs

There seems to be a bug in network-manager, it is reported here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager-applet/+bug/286500/
It's a strange issue, but otherwise harmless AFAICS.
  8. [ubuntu] Re: DESKTOP LOCKS UP CANT GET ANY ! HELP from anyone!!!

    Probably!
Press ALT+SysReq+R to let the kernel regain control over the keyboard.
Then CTRL+ALT+F1 should give you a console.

I have seen such problems, too, disabling desktop effects solved it...

    [ubuntu] Solution:

The workaround for the mouse click delay in Intrepid:

[ubuntu] Re: Mouse click delayed mere milliseconds

I also see this on a PC with a Logitech 3 button mouse. And it sucks.

I don't have the complete solution, but i do have a pointer:

[xubuntu] Re: Problem wth opengl and ntfs

No, this won't persist after a restart.

But this will automount the partition on boot:
    sudo -s
    echo "/dev/hda1 /media/win ntfs-3g 0 0" >> /etc/fstab

    @NTFS:
Ubuntu has windows disks listed under Places, doesn't Xubuntu have something similar?

But you can always mount your windows disk manually. In a terminal

[ubuntu] Re: Rename "Applications Places System" Menu

Well, that's what i did as a workaround. The gnome main menu unfortunately is quite unclear and clumsy compared to the Applications-Places-System menu.
