Try snownews.
Is there a configure script in the pygame-1.8.0release directory? Does it have the correct permissions? Take a look at/post the output of
ls -l
in that directory.
I don't see an attachment...

If you don't want to leave the terminal/aptitude for the GUI/Update Manager, you can do
sudo aptitude dist-upgrade
or
sudo aptitude safe-upgrade
It's not the most elegant solution ever, but the quickest one I could think of at this time of night:
echo "tun" | sudo tee -a /etc/modules
Like I said, not the most graceful solution ever,...

That's exactly what I do to get rid of my shadows.
There should be a list of packages to remove on the psychocats ubuntu webpage!
I've found that info useful when trying xubuntu out in the past.
Had this problem too, thanks a lot!

A great and very informative interview, esp. for frequent TeX users!
I didn't know about this package, but use TeX all the time on Ubuntu, you're a lifesaver!!!
You can update all of your installed programs from one place, and browse (mostly) all availible programs from a desktop app. No need to search the internet for installers.
And its FREE!!!
