do a defrag on your NTFS partition and then use the guided partitioner on the live cd to create your required partition for Ubuntu.
Nice Informative post danielrmn.....Personally, the vast majority of printers I have tried in Ubuntu since 7.04 have worked great! :P
You might start by looking here: https://help.ubuntu.com/6.10/ubuntu/serverguide/C/index.html
From wikipedia:
Seeing that you have had a successful trial, I think it is worth the attempt to run the screens and graphics changes. Worst case scenario, you can re-enable the backup xorg.conf.
Look in Applications>Add/Remove when installed it will be in Applications>Internet
Yea...or install Microsoft Office using Wine or Crossover Linux...I had to do it myself to work from home :(
I use sabayon frequently and their implementation of drivers is pretty slick. I hope that 8.10 will solve the issues with the kernel errors and allow for proper loading of the video drivers.
Well these old eyes don't see any glaring errors there. If it were me, I'd go ahead and do a clean install of 8.10 considering the acpi error seems to be fixed in the newer kernel. With the...
Another thought......I never asked this...Have you fully updated this machine? There have been 3 or 4 kernel updates since release.
I definitely believe we have a kernel bug at work here. I recommend that you try the 8.10 live cd and try to replicate the acpi error on your hardware. In any event you will need to file a bug...
Your Compaq Machine is most likely has the same MOBO as the poster from the it.ubuntu forum linked above using 8.04. It doesn't look like he has an answer either, considering we tried the noacpi...
After doing some research I found this page outlining an issue similar to yours...
Darnit.. :(
Let's approach this from a different angle...in the terminal:
lspci
and
glxinfo
Paste the results back here.
try this again...in the terminal:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg
or boot into recovery mode and use the xfix option
No the tab issue won't make any difference...your xorg.conf looks ok so far. I can't help but wondering if the underlying acpi issue (the error you see when reconfiguring) is causing havoc...
...
Ok...we'll try to generate a display modeline to instruct the xserver what to use as the default res.
Change this section using gedit like before:
to this:
I generated this modeline...
Ok...let's try manually editing the file to include the monitor refresh rates. In the terminal backup your current settings:
cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf_backup
Then we will get...
After some searching it looks like that error is a bug which has already been reported.
Try booting into the recovery mode and using the xfix option and see if this action will clear up your issue...
This is quite correct...in fact this card is so old it is not supported by the restricted driver. This card SHOULD be using the xorg-driver-ati open source driver.
If you are comfortable using...
Metacity is the standard Window Manager used in Gnome without the Desktop Effects enabled. Go to System>Preferences>Appearance>Visual Effects and select "None" This disables the Compiz Fusion, and...
Try removing and purging the previous attempted installs and try installing again.
sudo apt-get remove --purge xorg-driver-fglrx
What Card are you trying to install the driver for? Did you try the restricted driver already available in Ubuntu?
Well if your user name is an indication...a good place to start is with the RSGB (Radio Society of Great Britain) website: http://www.rsgb.org/...from there you might be able to identify a local club...
