    If you want to use gparted to format your drive to ntfs don't forget to install ntfsprogs too.

    If you use the HD to transfer files from different OSes I'd recommend you to use FAT32 or NTFS, because almost all OSes can read & write from those formats.

    You can't install Ubuntu on those...

    dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdc gives No medium found

    How can I check the permissions?

    I've used all the commands as root.
    And I've tried gparted also but the program doesn't see my drive.
    Only the sda and sdb, which are a local and another usb drive.
