Re: Post Your Grub 2 Themes

Here's a link on Google Drive. Again, the guide is no longer maintained. Hopefully it works well with the latest version of GRUB.

I've updated my sig to reflect the new link.

    Re: A Beginner's Guide to Theming GRUB2

Simply put, you cannot get rid of the terminal window. It's part of the GRUB source code.

Also, if you followed the 3rd Edition (which you should use now), from Page 69 of the Guide:

    The...

Re: Post Your Grub 2 Themes

Yeah but my tutorials cannot be based on commits to the trunk branch, simply because 99.99% of users will not be using GRUB from the trunk branch.

The tutorial must be based on at least what the...

Re: Post Your Grub 2 Themes

Yeah, unfortunately you cannot get rid if it, but you can theme it just as with the other elements of the GRUB menu.

That black box is called the terminal window and the fact that it appears black...

    Re: A Beginner's Guide to Theming GRUB2

The guide is dependent on you following through the previous steps. At the end of the Demo Theme chapter, you should have in /boot/grub/themes/demo:

Re: Post Your Grub 2 Themes

Two main changes that affected the install.sh script were:

Prefixes are now quoted, ie: sysconfdir=/etc is now sysconfdir="/etc".
The variable GRUB_PREFIX is no longer set in grub-mkconfig....

    ATTENTION: All GRUB2 themers

OP, please allow me to post this here as I believe more GRUB2 themers will see it here than if I created a new thread. Thanks.

There are now quite a few themes created in this thread for GRUB2. ...

Re: Post Your Grub 2 Themes

Someone recently reported that the install.sh script did not work with GRUB 2.00. While the guide is for 1.99, themes should still work un-modified on 2.00, so I've patch the install.sh script to...

    Re: A Beginner's Guide to Theming GRUB2

Here is the patched install.sh script. There were several other changes to GRUB 2.00 grub-mkconfig script.

I've also included it in the main download archive.

Could you post the output of:

    grep ^sysconfdir $(sudo which grub-mkconfig)

    Thanks for the feedback.

Re: Post Your Grub 2 Themes

I built it on Squeeze when it was at beta 3. Built went smoothly and I got the default theme. The theme is not too shabby, but not as good as some of the more recent ones posted here.

Re: Grub 2 Won't Use My Theme

I never used BURG, but I'm pretty sure they won't work in GRUB. While it will certainly look quite different, you should be able to use the graphics to create a GRUB2 theme.

    Re: Grub 2 Basics

The simplest way to do this is to edit /etc/default/grub and change the GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR line to:

    GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR="Kubuntu"

    The lsb...
