Another update, seems that with Fubuntu everything works out-of-the-box.
I don't know if anyone has already seen this but i'm running the latest ATI proprietary drivers and using this script:

How can i remove the ATI drivers and install the open source ones so that suspend works?

neverthless it seems that ubuntu runs slowly... its a shame, i would love to use it to its full extend.
So at the moment we can only have GPU acceleration in VLC?

How can i activate VAAPI so that the system uses the GPU unit as well as flash? Is it possible to play youtube 720p at the moment?
