I updated my 12/04 machine and wine completely uninstalled itself, it seems. and trying to re-install tells me the package system is broken. any idea what happened here? I don't knwo what information...

I've not SEEN it configured wrong before, but I've never not not seen CUPS start on startup before either
what does your /etc/samba/smb.conf say? the upgrade may have wiped out your working conf file.

as a side note. the version I downloaded for packettracer 5.3.3 was "Packet Tracer v5.3.3 Application only Linux-Ubuntu.bin." the ONLY way I got this to run was to rename AND chmod it

also, when I do the "xauth list" it says it is creating /home/me/.Xauthority in my home directory, but an ls -A does not show one for me either.
