Re: Really Old Computer. What To Do?

I've tried DSL and Puppy, but they just weren't small or easy enough.

Then I tried TinyCoreLinux, and it was an eye opener. I didn't know you could make such a small distro so elagant and smooth....

Re: Building a Gaming Computer for the first time

You should be aware that there is a big performance difference between the 128 GB and the 256 GB version of the Crucial RealSSD C300. The 256 GB version performs much better, but it's also much more...

Intel's Linux driver just isn't up for the job. It's a sorry state of affairs, but it's the truth.

Best advice I can give your is: Next time you invest in a PC, that you want to play 3D games on,...

Re: WoW is slow as snails! help!

This one takes the award for the most unholy necromancy EVER!
  10. Re: Howto: WOW with Wine (help.ubuntu.com/community/WorldofWarcraft)

I have nothing new to add, but I saw a lot of out-of-date info in the audio section, so I cut it quite a bit. I also moved it to the troubleshooting section, because most users should not have to do...
  11. Re: Howto: WOW with Wine (help.ubuntu.com/community/WorldofWarcraft)

    @aaricus
I just decided that the text on "OpenGL or Direct3D" was needlessly convoluted. So I just cut it down significantly.

EDIT: I also proceeded to do some small general cleanup of the guide....
  12. Re: Steve Jobs: "Google Android isn’t really that open"

If you value functionality over openness in your tech products, then you're like me. I own a iPhone too :P (hur hur)

  13. Re: Steve Jobs: "Google Android isn’t really that open"

I think some people are still missing the point of this tread and Jobs comment.

Google is saying that Android is open, only it's not (even though they do open source code dumps from time to time),...

  15. Re: Steve Jobs: "Google Android isn’t really that open"

Apple never claimed that iOS was an open platform. Google however claims that Android is.

We have pretty firmly established that Android is indeed open source, but this is far from enough to call...
  16. Re: Steve Jobs: "Google Android isn’t really that open"

See my last post. Your definition of open may be good enough for you, but it is not good enough for most open source developers. Think of the reasons for the Libre Office fork.
  17. Re: Steve Jobs: "Google Android isn’t really that open"

I'm glad we agree, because that's exactly what I'm saying :)

Android is open source. But it's not an open source project.

Often when people complain about a piece of software being too...

Re: Double your framerate in WoW under Wine

    Holy Necromancy!
  19. Re: Steve Jobs: "Google Android isn’t really that open"

All Android development is done in a very closed manor inside Google. Sure Google releases the source code once they're finished with a version, but the development itself is completely closed off...

    Re: Games are coded in...?

    Worth stressing.

Basically: if it's a small game that's going to be run on PCs, then you may use any language that you are familiar/confortable with.

C++ is only a must, for big commercial...
