  3. Re: Ubuntu 12.04; mdadm RAID6 ; BUG unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference

Thanks for the detailed response MAFoElffen,

Everything in the originally posted log/pastes should contain the full information. I agree it's surprising that there aren't any extra logs or hints...
  4. Ubuntu 12.04; mdadm RAID6 ; BUG unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference

    Hey raid/mdadm/server/kernel experts;

I'm running Ubuntu server 12.04 w/ mdadm software RAIDs. Recently, one of the drives (sdj) is failing in md2000 array. At first I was trying to "get it back...
  5. [ubuntu] Ubuntu 12.04 bug in default SSH configuration preventing X11 Forwarding?

    Good day,

Recently I upgraded my server from 10.04 to 12.04 LTS.

Since then, for a long while, I was unable to use X11 forwarding. (previously it worked just fine).

    Today finally I spent the...

  8. Re: How To Configure mdadm RAID e-mail Notifications via ISP SMTP Using msmtp

    Thanks everyone for the feedback!

Since I originally wrote this how-to on Ubuntu 8.04, I have since built a new server, and reconfiguring my RAID monitoring has been long over-due. I finally got...

NOTE: At some point this pmi binary was removed (not included by default). it should be part of the powermanagement-interface deb package.

  11. [ubuntu] How to configure KDE settings without running KDE (i.e. GNOME)

This is a little weird, but consider:

    * Have this problem where the tooltips in Amarok aren't...

    [ubuntu] Re: Canoscan LiDE 200

Yeah this sucks. I usually use xsane, which still works. But since my post on March 5th, "simple-scan" no longer works. Similar to other reports, clicking "scan" causes the scanner to move around...
  14. [ubuntu] Re: Transmission disconnects internet after 20 min.

Do you have any spare computers or virtual machines to test with?

It is a valuable test to try with other computers, other OSs, to see if the problem is wide-spread across your house-hold (i.e....
  15. [ubuntu] Re: need help to rescue a mdadm RAID unable to mount

Also, how did you assemble the array?

Just installed mdadm, then rebooted? (allowing mdadm to auto-assemble based on the entry in /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf)
  16. [ubuntu] Re: need help to rescue a mdadm RAID unable to mount

Yikes. Yeah so you've got a RAID array created with "entire disks" without any "Linux RAID" partitions on them. I don't believe this is recommended ... because probably what's happened is that the...
  17. [SOLVED] Re: mdadm: doesn't contain a valid partition table after reboot

    Thanks dtfinch.

I went with option 2) version 1.1 metadata. Since I was creating partitions 2048 blocks into the drive (DOS compatibility disabled [c] and in sector mode [u]), and I'm not booting...

How to control the order of the pages though?

  19. [SOLVED] Re: mdadm: doesn't contain a valid partition table after reboot

This is ridiculous. I have performed a full re-creation of my array, and after a reboot, it has eaten the disks again.

  20. [SOLVED] Re: mdadm: doesn't contain a valid partition table after reboot

So basically I'm fubar'd and have to re-create the array?
  21. [SOLVED] Re: mdadm: doesn't contain a valid partition table after reboot

Sorry, no. I did not create the RAID against devices rather than partitions. Look at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1719427. In every instances there, it was clearly made with working...
  22. [SOLVED] mdadm: doesn't contain a valid partition table after reboot

    This is really weird.

As per http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1719427, I had a working array. I failed out one of the drives for fun.

  24. [SOLVED] Re: RAID6 fails to re-assemble after restart (left with spare device in /dev/md_dX)

    ah-ah; solved.

    Had to do:

    sudo mdadm --examine --scan --config=mdadm.conf
, and examine the output for /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf.

(apparently the UUID in mdadm.conf isn't exactly as shown in...
  25. [SOLVED] Re: RAID6 fails to re-assemble after restart (left with spare device in /dev/md_dX)

OK so I have realized what the issue was. The UUID in /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf was wrong! ugh.

    After fixing it:

    fermulator@fermmy-server:~$ cat /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf | grep md2000
