I had to do, at someone's suggestion, kill esd (i think it was) in terminal to get it to work. I've sincer rebooted and it continues to work for me.
I too have a Pentium M and when I installed the 686 it made my system slow.

I'm not sue either. I have no wacom hooked up either but I have it in my xorg.conf file too. If I delete it it stops working.
And also how do I make the wheel button a double click button?
