ubuntu-desktop and ubuntu-desktop-minimal now have just one broken dependency gvfs-bin
Actually, gnome 3 works very well without ubuntu mods and seems faster.
gdm3 is also broken along with ubuntu-desktop(not supporting gnome 3.37.90) and apport.
removing apport(disabling it is not enough) brings gdm3 and gnome back up without ubuntu mods.
Proposed is back up now, libffi7:amd64 (3.3-4) was removed and libgjs0g updated.
It looks like gnome-shell has segfault.
gnome-shell[1190]: segfault at 7f742163bb10 ip 00007f742163a1dd sp 00007fffedd41790 error 7 in libgjs.so.0.0.0[7f7421614000+87000]
I was already using scale-monitor-framebuffer thanks anyway.
It appears that my intel bios firmware needed an update and this has resolved the issue.
In the last week the scale factor is broken for most apps on Gnome, Firefox, VLC, Chrome.
All the built-in functions in Gnome are fine.
Very difficult to read on menus on 4K screen with 100%
You're not installed along side/in side windows?
Looks like you aren't set to plymouth-theme-ubuntu-logo
Try
sudo apt-get install --reinstall plymouth-theme-ubuntu-logo
reboot and then edit the file in
/usr/share/plymouth/themes/ubuntu-logo
After you have changed that file(ubuntu-logo.script) you must update the theme with
sudo update-initramfs -u
Anyone knows why 4.18 is blocked on proposed on Cosmic 18.10?
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1789459
The issue is resolved by installing Firefox 61.0.1 from Bionic so we should get that in due course.
Cosmic 18.10 and it was only updates from Thursday about 23.00 UTC to Friday the same time, I have no idea
It does appear only Firefox is affected which is lagging behind Bionic on 60.0
Ever since updates on Friday video no longer plays in firefox on Intel NUC(NUC7JY).
Otherwise video plays okay on system.
I complained about this weeks ago to no answer. whatever has changed is also affecting stable builds.
The last build I could install was 4.17-rc1.
Fixed by adding a file called gnome-qt.sh in /etc/profile.d
with this inside.
export QT_AUTO_SCREEN_SCALE_FACTOR=0
Intel N3700 (i915 chipset) never needed to install any driver for it.
Just installed 18.04 but VLC interface is too big and can't be made any smaller than quarter of the screen.
In Screen display settings the monitor is reported as 7" yet it is 42".
Other apps...
lightdm is completely broken after today's update on both x86 and amd64 on intel N3700.
Unity starts okay with gdm3.
4.10 is now out of date by 2 months of updates even zesty should have jumped to 4.11.
I can't run 4.10 wireless driver is broken that was fixed in stable kernels 4.04 and 4.09.
So I am staying...
Well you might as well be on 4.13-rc's on LTS.
4.08, 4.10, 4.11 End of Life and likely 4.12 near I don't think 4.13 will be long either.
Well even 4.09 is better because it is a long term kernel.
Ubuntu keep skipping over long term kernels which is okay if they maintain them.
Well there certainly it not worth moving off kernel 4.4, they are not maintaining later kernels properly 4.10 is dead in the water
I have found a fix that has been reported here to bugzilla.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=780119
Open

Downgrading Network Manger to 1.2.6 restores normal operation.
Packages from 16.10 needed to downgrade.

Same issue after upgrade from Yakkety will not connect to anything even though logs says authenticated
It's not kernel 4.10 either I have been using that for weeks on 16.10.
It seems like...
