Wine is your best bet for exe files. Keep in mind not all windows executables work properly using wine.

I doubt you would have much luck with those specs. :)
The main gripe I have is power managment is still pretty moody on my laptop. I'm sure that will eventually get fixed though.

The ppa worked great for me.
I'm glad I'm not the only one with sleep issues. Hibernate luckily seems to work ok for me atm. Sleep refuses to wake up and requires a forced restart.

You might try running System > Administration > Disk Utility as a means of removing the partition.
Steer clear of ATI if you can. The drivers are usable but they still leave alot to be desired.
I second using server edition. In my experience server edition seems to work better for me when it comes to working as a server.

I couldn't agree more. ubuntu-restricted-extras is about the only thing I grab on a clean install. After that I just download programs as I see a need / dependency.
I almost forgot. You can also use the .tar stuff, you will normally have to compile it first though.

I have no stability issues in 9.04. I would give the 904 livecd a whirl.
