Re: Speed Difference in Firefox 3.6 & 3.7

I agree, on a regular desktop - the performance difference is hardly noticeable between all the current offerings; it's often best to choose the most stable release. Firefox takes a bit longer to...
  2. Re: Obnoxious October 2009 Screenshot Thread( thumbnails only please)

Final Karmic, new wallpaper, the theme's a bit more square and compact. Other than that, same as usual.

    Font: Aller Sans, 8pt.
Icons: Gnome-Brave with Humanity-Dark's system tray icons.
    GTK:...
  3. Re: Obnoxious October 2009 Screenshot Thread( thumbnails only please)

The font is called Aller Sans, at 8px size. It's a free font, so you can find it with a quick google search. I do have different hinting settings than the defaults, so it might look just a bit...
  4. Re: Obnoxious October 2009 Screenshot Thread( thumbnails only please)

Just upgraded to Karmic. Looks simple and elegant.
  5. Re: Obnoxious October 2009 Screenshot Thread( thumbnails only please)

Don't you mean "Infarction"? Or did I just miss the pun?
  6. Re: Serene September 2009 Screenshot Thread (thumbnails only)

Just some minor changes and new icons. An Ubuntu-based netbook is so useful and portable, I find myself not needing a full blown laptop at all anymore.
  7. Re: Serene September 2009 Screenshot Thread (thumbnails only)

I prefer GNOME/XFCE because the overall desktop feels simpler and more intuitive. Besides, all the applications I use or care for are GTK-based, so switching to KDE doesn't really seem that enticing....
  8. Re: Serene September 2009 Screenshot Thread (thumbnails only)

My fonts are the default "Sans" at size 8, it looks much better than Ubuntu's default font size. The window border font is set to "Bold". I did run the following command once, to get nicer fonts -...
  9. Re: Serene September 2009 Screenshot Thread (thumbnails only)

Thanks. Hopefully with the netbook I can resume work on Shiki/GNOME-Colors even if I'm in college all day.

Anyone have any tips on safely removing that dreaded "Designed for Windows XP" sticker...
  10. Re: Serene September 2009 Screenshot Thread (thumbnails only)

Minor update from last night. Managed to make it a bit more netbook-friendly, without having to switch to a more compact theme.

Window list grouping + Workspaces takes care of the limited space in...
  11. Re: Serene September 2009 Screenshot Thread (thumbnails only)

Nice, thanks. This + 16px toolbar icons seem to save the most space. With a reworked metacity, it'll be perfect.
  12. Re: Serene September 2009 Screenshot Thread (thumbnails only)

Here you go, highest res I could find.
  13. Re: Serene September 2009 Screenshot Thread (thumbnails only)

Lenovo S10-2. It's fast enough to play frozen bubble/world of goo and it's lightweight enough to take to class. So far, so good.
  14. Re: Serene September 2009 Screenshot Thread (thumbnails only)

Bought a netbook today, I thought I'd run into trouble - but it runs Jaunty/GNOME just perfectly. No compiz, but I think it looks good enough... Perhaps I can save a few pixels here and there, but...
  15. Re: Serene September 2009 Screenshot Thread (thumbnails only)

Plain and boring. What else is new?

Re: August 2009 Screenshot Thread (thumbnails only)

It's probably the icon set. Perhaps the one you're using only has large icons that are scaled down for the smaller sizes, instead of small icons that are natively drawn.

    GNOME has plenty of icon...

Re: August 2009 Screenshot Thread (thumbnails only)

Wow, that looks awesome. I actually thought it was a Mac until I saw the "Aurora" buttons. Can we get some more details on everything that you're using there?

Re: August 2009 Screenshot Thread (thumbnails only)

It's worth a try, although Kubuntu isn't really as polished as I'd hope and I'm far too dependant on APT to even consider the SUSE or Arch spins.

If they get it right for Kubuntu Karmic, I'd...

Re: August 2009 Screenshot Thread (thumbnails only)

Nothing fancy, just the usual fare.
  20. Re: The best GNOME theme I have ever seen so far.

For general usage, any more "compact-ness" would make the theme less functional. I recommend setting "Text beside icons" as wersdaluv mentioned, I personally love that setting - and it looks more...

    Re: July 2009 Screenshot Thread

You can download the source pack and use any color palette you like, you only need four "#color" values, which in this case would be a darker green, and then use the makefile+instructions to recreate...

I was testing out Benjamin Drung's "Sandwich" makefile (based on XKCD) :)

    Re: July 2009 Screenshot Thread

I think a more powerful gnome-panel would be far more useful and easier to implement. You know, sort of tint2 with applets. I've been playing around with a tint2+gnome-do desktop, perhaps I'll post...

    Re: July 2009 Screenshot Thread

It most certainly will. The previews look great, although I'm still unsure about the shell; I don't particularly like a workspace-oriented desktop, but only time will tell.

    The new...
