[ubuntu] Re: Cannot Install - "No root file system defined"

Well, if you're wanting to install it and keep Windows as well, you could try using the Wubi installer. You won't have to worry about partitions: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/WubiGuide

    @Gone Fishing

Your reasonable and pleasant reply is a breath of fresh air :)
  3. Re: Why Linux is the best - Help me write my article for college!

A lot of Linux distros do not come with DVD codecs either, due to licensing issues. KLite codec pack usually fixes that on XP.
  4. Re: Why Linux is the best - Help me write my article for college!

You don't have to be a fanboy to be honest. Switching to Linux for a business is not as simple as just switching to a different OS. There are compatibility issues to be addressed with third-party...

Re: Web Mail vs Desktop Mail?

With a desktop email client, you still have a local copy of your emails if you can't get online, of if Google accidentally loses your data (this has happened in the past).
  6. Re: Why Linux is the best - Help me write my article for college!

Windows has been able to unzip files since XP (for 10 years now).

Is your experience from 1998? Windows Media Player is a fine player with decent library support, and you do just "double...

If the computer is bootable from a USB drive, you can download UnetBootin to create a thumbdrive that you can install Ubuntu from.

[wubi] Re: help with proxy? first time ubuntu user

  9. [ubuntu] Re: Possible to run wubi while Windows Vista trial period has expired?

Since you never actually boot into Windows when using Ubuntu that's been installed with Wubi, it doesn't matter if Windows expires or not.

[ubuntu] Re: cant cut copy paste in the partitions

The only folder you can copy/cut/paste/move anything in is your home folder. To work with files anywhere else in the system, you need to be root. It is not advised that you modify files outside of...

    Re: EFS Decryption?

Well, the keys aren't tied to the files. It's just one key per Windows user. There's a key file that could have been backed up before reinstalling Windows, but now that file is gone :(

You're not upgrading, you just updated the upgrade list. To upgrade, type "sudo apt-get upgrade".
