    Re: Nautilus 3.8: Functions removed

Just upgraded to 13.10 the other day and I find Nautilus pretty much unusable. I can't seem to do anything in it. If I install Nemo won't that mess up a lot of things like the desktop, main home...
  2. Re: Where has the System76 Driver for Precise release gone?

To clarify, are all hardware features of System76 models at time of sale guaranteed to work with the current LTS version or not? even if one or more non-LTS versions had been released when the model...
  3. Re: Where has the System76 Driver for Precise release gone?

I am shocked to read this. As a previous purchaser from System76 I was always very happy with their support, but that was a few years ago. I always stick with LTS releases, and I would expect...

  5. [all variants] Ubuntu + x/l/kubuntu-desktop vs. "real" X/L/Kubuntu

Since starting out with Feisty, I have been sticking with the LTS releases (Hardy and now Lucid), so I have not yet tried Unity. I also haven't tried KDE 4.x and have heard very positive things...

[ubuntu] Re: Software center for purchase is empty

Thanks for the info. I would have thought it would have been added for Lucid in an update, but maybe it's more complicated than that. :-k

[ubuntu] Re: Software center for purchase is empty

I don't even have a "for purchase" section at all and I can't find anything in software sources to turn it on. I'm running 10.04 LTS. Is there a minimum version of Ubuntu required to get the for...
  8. [SOLVED] Re: Notification Area icons not appearing correctly sometimes (Lucid x64)

I'm running 32 bit but still have the same bug. I want to use your work around, but what 'show hide button' are you talking about? I don't find it in the add to panel list of applets.

    I'd like...

    **Hyperventilating** No Pysol?

So what if it hasn't been updated in a long time? Does that make it suddenly broken? Anyone know why they would drop this--the best solitaire game...

[other] Re: Meet the new System76 Meerkat NetTop

I think it's great that it has a serial port. Many people, including my Mom, are still limited to dial-up in rural areas. External serial modems work best with Linux and that's what she's using on...

Also, it seems that some ISPs are planning to move to tiered pricing:

I see it has an 84W power supply. Any stats on typical power usage? I'm thinking of getting something that I can leave on all the time to use as a home file/print/database server.

    [ubuntu] Re: Quote key quark?

I just got Hardy installed on my desktop today and it looks like it uses slightly different layout names than Feisty. First make sure your selected keyboard model is Generic 105 key, not Classmate....

If you go to System|Preferences|Keyboard, on the layout tab, are you using U.S. English, or is some other layout listed?

Re: Helping Blind Friend Move to Linux

I've heard about that off and on for some time, but I've never found anything to download or seen any indication of its status or when it will be available. It sounds interesting, though.

The way things stand today, if you need a screen reader, I think your best bet is a Mac. It has VoiceOver included and completely integrated with the operating system, and it's all very stable.

    Re: OnBoard On screen Keyboard

I haven't tested this, but if you run gconf-editor, under apps>gnome-power-manager, there are checkboxes for lock_on_hibernate and lock_on_suspend. You could try unchecking them.
