  2. [SOLVED] Re: Epson Stylus SX105 Printer not working after 20.04 install

To finish the monologue (for the benefit of anyone else trying to keep one of these ancient printers going in 20.04) you need

    CUPS+Gutenprint v5.3.3 (color)

Admin is best done from localhost ...
  3. [SOLVED] Re: Epson Stylus SX105 Printer not working after 20.04 install

Should have mentioned that I've tried installing printer-driver-escpr (which worked in 16.04) and also downgrading 20.04 installed printer-driver-escpr to the version present in 16.04.
  4. [SOLVED] Epson Stylus SX105 Printer not working after 20.04 install

The above printer worked in 16.04, but despite being detected and installed OK is unresponsive since fresh install of 20.04. It says printing completed, but nothing actually happens.

    Any help in...

[ubuntu] Re: Occasional Complete System Freze

I agree that diagnosing/remedying this might be a slow process. The freeze has only been happening about once a month, so opportunities to test theories are pretty limited too.

    I've tried stacer...

Thanks for that. It would be quite a learning exercise for me, but in the current situation I'm not exactly plagued by distractions.

[ubuntu] Re: Occasional Complete System Freze

Would that help? My problem is that when the system freezes no input works - so process information displayed in a space not visible at the time of the freeze will remain forever invisible.

[ubuntu] Re: Occasional Complete System Freze

Fair enough - but when you've only got an 11" laptop and old eyes display space is at a premium!

    Thanks.
Conky works, but I think looks really messy on top of a scrolling browser window.

I've gone for a panel applet approach using gnome flashback for now. Temperatures, cpu load, RAM and swap...

[ubuntu] Re: Occasional Complete System Freze

The laptop has one SSD only (it's only 11", so there's not a lot of room). Anyway, I suspect there is no chance that the user would treat a longer 'system slowing' symptom from having more swap as...

Sorry I don't know the answer to that. It just states '240GB Over-Provisioned SATA SSD'

So I suspect not NVME, but don't really know.

Contacting starlabs support is next on my list. Thought I'd...

Thanks - lots to consider there. I'll work through it - I've jotted some initial thoughts below.

Re: Ubuntu 20.04 got a lot of things right!

I'd thought Ubuntu was a lot heavier on memory than kubuntu - one of the reasons I switched to kubuntu on my old laptop (4 Gig RAM).
