    [ubuntu] Re: screen resolution

    Your "add mode" command at the bottom of post #7 has an extra space after the 1440 so try again without that errant space and it may work

    Re: New to ubuntu

    It sounds as if you bought the Dell with Ubuntu already installed and if this is the case and you have not yet managed to start Ubuntu you should go back to the seller and get them to fix it.
  5. Re: 20.04 SSH connection refused to server VM

    Check that you have the ssh server running on the guest with command
    ps aux | grep sshd
    If you do not see a line with that showing (other than the grep service which will also show), you should be...

    [ubuntu] Re: Apt Update Indicator

    Residual config files are those from packages that you have probably removed but not purged, thus leaving configurations still in the system.
    There is no necessity to remove them, and they may be...

    [SOLVED] Re: Command to find public IP address

    You can use curl in terminal to get a lot of this info.

    curl ipinfo.io/ip
    {
    "ip": "95.149.108.51",
    If you want more detail omit the final /ip in the command and you will get

    ~$ curl ...

    Re: Best UK Laptop Ubuntu

    Be more careful with hardware choice than you would need to be if getting a laptop with OS installed if you want to manually install Linux/Ubuntu. Intel hardware is usually less likely to cause...

    Re: I get errors when doing "apt update"

    Ah! OK, forget my wireless-info script idea in that case.

    Problems with ethernet are unusual but try running command
    ping -c 10 172.217.169.78 and the follow with
    ping -c 10 google.com

    Re: I get errors when doing "apt update"

    I believe the webupd8 ppa repos have all stopped now so they must be removed; I've never heard of the bintray repo; what was it for?

    For your wireless problem see Wireless-info in my signature...
  14. Re: Focal Fossa updates - unattended upgrades dialog - nothing happens
