    [kde] konqueror default profile

No doubt asked many times before, but googling 'konqueror default profile' nicely brings up a direct hit of http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=816142.

Except ... it assumes menu or other...

I have done you a disservice too, and for that I apologize.

I should also have separately replied to your post directly. Wherein I would have said, and below ...

    Re: installing zfs

    +1

As soon as he said he uses a Mac, your comment applies.

Play with k/ubuntu for a while, get happy / comfortable, before going on.

Any reasonable amount of familiarity would reveal...
  5. [ubuntu] Re: Pathetic (SLOW) smbfs/cifs Performance and Good gvfs Performance: Some Findings

Following up to this post ...

    Never mind. Maybe.

The above changes -definitely- helped with speed. But it didn't resolve the problem - it couldn't. [When I did resolve the problem, I have no...
  6. [ubuntu] Re: Pathetic (SLOW) smbfs/cifs Performance and Good gvfs Performance: Some Findings

    Interesting. Per https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cifs-utils/+bug/810606
changed 65536 to 130048 (and added rsize=32768,wsize=32768 to fstab) and the input/output error has gone away, and...
  7. [ubuntu] Re: Pathetic (SLOW) smbfs/cifs Performance and Good gvfs Performance: Some Findings

Having done this, I find my cifs now borked.

    ls /{share} always returns:

ls: reading directory /{share}: Input/output error

    Kubuntu 12.04 (pp).

    Help!

    Re: kubuntu += mythbuntu?

Yep, get that. Wasn't talking about the distro, but the add-on. Apologies if I'm misusing or abusing the terms (e.g. 'Mythbuntu'), there's so much here / flexibility, and this Mythbuntu forum talks...

    Re: kubuntu += mythbuntu?

    No

I think that you presume that mythbuntu holds more than it really does.[/quote]

(Or mythtv itself, for that matter, presumably, then.)

Thank you for this - so, in essence mythtv package...

    Re: kubuntu += mythbuntu?

I read it, haven't had a chance to respond to it. In a moment.

Wasn't referring to that post but to the 'bug report'.

    Re: kubuntu += mythbuntu?

    Thanks for that reminder.

I now remember reading some time ago that the 'show the caller id on the tv when a call comes in' functionality is available in a number of other ways now. This getting...

    Re: kubuntu += mythbuntu?

    Thank you very much.

    You install mythtv, not mythbuntu-control-centre?

Does mythbuntu not bring with it a greater richness of functionality / coordination / ease of coordinated configuration...

    kubuntu += mythbuntu?

Are there any links to hints, tips, best practices, etc., regarding adding mythbuntu to kubuntu? [Haven't built the machine yet, reading this from firefox / win xp.]

  17. Re: Mythbuntu as gateway? Hints, tips, best practices, etc.?

That is a misnomer, and it is no credit to you to spread the FUD.

There are circumstances where that is true, and circumstances where it might not be - the *circumstances must be considered* - the...
  18. Mythbuntu as gateway? Hints, tips, best practices, etc.?

I have a new box on order. I gave up on LinuxMCE some time ago, and it seems to me that Mythbuntu (on top of Kubuntu) is the way to go. [Let's not debate OS choice, in this particular thread.]

    I...
  19. Re: What firewall does Mythbuntu use (by default)?

Can you speak to why not run a firewall on it?
(I presume the easiest way to answer that is by pointing me towards links that discuss it, rather than rehashing...
  20. What firewall does Mythbuntu use (by default)?

I have a computer on order - I expect to run Kubuntu LTS + Mythbuntu on it. [If you wish to debate the wisdom of that, start a different thread, please.]

In prep for this computer, I'm going to...
