  1. Re: Set screen to turn off after time. Command line not desktop.

    O.K. sounds right.

    It looks O.K. to me.

I think it should be 1 per kernel, plus 1 repeated for the default kernel. I get a bit different, but think it is a red herring. I have 30 kernels...
  2. Re: Set screen to turn off after time. Command line not desktop.

A few years ago, the screen used to default to turning off after a few minutes. Now it defaults to staying on all the time. To restore the original behavior, you can add a timeout to your grub...

Re: Kernel 5.9 RC (Release Candidate) series

Kernel 5.9-rc4 is available. I have only been running it for a short time, so far.

[SOLVED] Re: sudo fails and Kernel bug

It is actually pretty trivial to try, but O.K. Watch for kernel 5.4.0-44.48 (= mainline 5.4.55), which has been in proposed since August 10th, and so should be out soon. It will have the fix.

Re: Kernel 5.9 RC (Release Candidate) series

Within the intel_pstate CPU frequency scaling driver, and for new enough processors (>= 6th gen (A.K.A Skylake)), HWP (HardWare Pstate) control offloads the actual work into the processor itself.

[SOLVED] Re: sudo fails and Kernel bug

Did you ever try the mainline kernel? Your issue sure sounds like that bug report I referred you to earlier.

Re: Kernel 5.9 RC (Release Canidate) series

Oh, thanks. Yes, I forgot to go to "advanced".

Oh Boy, I don't know how much to get into it. I have been having a spat with Intel (at least the members of the linux power management group) for...

Yes, typo. It should be candidate. I can not figure out how to edit the title.

[SOLVED] Re: sudo fails and Kernel bug

I wonder if this is your issue?
The fix is already in the mainline kernels, but may not have worked its way back to Ubuntu kernel 5.4 yet. Seems to be in upstream 5.4.47
I did not look for a...

Kernel 5.9 RC (Release Candidate) series

Kernel 5.9-rc1 is available from kernel.org, and the Ubuntu Mainline PPA.

I have been running very close to 5.9-rc1 all day.

We have a running thread during each mainline kernel release cycle....

[ubuntu] Re: Unclear high CPU usage

Actually, they don't disagree by much. Top shows the 1 minute load average as 2.85 or 285%. The other numbers are over a much shorter interval and out of all 4 CPUs, so the total of 56.3% * 4 =...

    Re: Linux 5.8 Kernel

Over on the devleopment sub-forum, we always have a thread going for every kernel release candidate series. You can review the 5.8-rc series one to see what issues came up and what we learned during...
  15. [SOLVED] Re: LUBUNTU Where is configuration cpu power profiles ?

There is no such driver as amd_cpufreq, that I am aware of.
You are probably using the acpi-cpufreq CPU frequency scaling driver and the ondemand governor by default.
I already showed you how to...
  16. [SOLVED] Re: LUBUNTU Where is configuration cpu power profiles ?

Yes there is, I think. I have absolutely no use for such things.

It depends on which CPU frequency scaling driver you are using. Do, and for example:

    $ grep . /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu*/cpufreq/scaling_driver...
  19. Re: help need with a dns server bind9 preferably

I run bind9 on my LAN. I also run a dhcp server on the same computer. Visiting computers acquire a dynamic IP address, which includes which DNS to use. Then they can access my web site by name. If...

  22. Re: Request for help/test - Intel Processors power log bits

The point with all of this is that I do not know if it was "real" or just the bits started up that way. In my case, and to the best of my abilities, the sticky power log bits were not real. I...
  23. Re: Request for help/test - Intel Processors power log bits

I am attempting to acquire evidence that several systems startup with some of the logging bits within the processor itself set. These sticky bits would normally indicate that some event, say some...
