  1. Re: Completely erase hard drive(s) - ALL partitions for fresh Ubuntu Install

    Three beeps is bad base memory (Base 64K mem failure). It can also cause keyboard and other "random" errors. Sometimes this can be fixed by flushing the bios by removing the battery for five minutes,...

    What happens if you try sudo apt-get clean then sudo apt-get autoclean. Can it download the package then?

    You could change the squid settings from ufs to aufs. The squid doc and howto is here:

    Try the following:

    sudo su -

    ufw allow http
    ufw allow https

    ufw disable && ufw enable

    This should enable http (port 80), and https (port 443).

  16. Re: WARNING~ This Gnome-look theme will erase your HDD

    Adding a sanity check that doesn't allow dpkg to run "rm" isn't anti-virus IMHO.
    I also remember there was a bad screensaver script on gnome-look.org.I wonder if the site has been compromised?

    I wonder if we could change dpkg to fail (with a warning) whenever a user tries to install scripts like this. Anyone in the know care to comment?

  24. [ubuntu] Re: Windows printer driver for networked printer

    What does /etc/cups/cupsd.conf look like on your box? Can you pull up a browser on Zentyl and type in http://localhost:631

    Are you blocking your samba shares and netbios with a firewall.
  25. [ubuntu] Re: Windows printer driver for networked printer

    Are the permissions for the share OK? Did you use the rpcclient command-line utility once with the adddriver command--then used the rpcclint command with the subcommand setdriver?
