Re: gnome games start but cannot be played

Strange enough, this was solved by a reboot. Linux is becoming more and more like everything we do not like :(

gnome games start but cannot be played

When I start a game, such as gnome-mahjongg or gnome-sudoku, the opening screen appears, but I cannot click anything. I suspect myself of having removed some required package. I have already removed,...

    Re: [lubuntu]Text display shows sideways

Sorry, @morgaes, I am available for assistance, and I have told my story. I am not going to tell it again. And perhaps you do not mean it like that but I do not like being told what to do when I...

    Re: [lubuntu]Text display shows sideways

Installed 18.04 now, which is apparently a work in progress - as expected.
On the good side: physicalluy rotating the screen is detected by hardware and the display gets tilted accordingly. Which...

    Re: [lubuntu]Text display shows sideways

My previous message was not complete: I installed the 18.04 and it does detect rotation - when I rotate the device, the display will tilt 90 degrees too. Great, now I have something workable. Still...

    Re: [lubuntu]Text display shows sideways

Downloaded 18.04 today, copied to USB stick and booted from that. Same behaviour as before, the display is rotated by 90 degrees. HELP!

    Re: [lubuntu]Text display shows sideways

My apologies for not coming back any sooner - influenza time down here.
As per the suggestion, I added to /etc/default/grub the line
    GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX=text
    then regenerated the real grub...

    [lubuntu]Text display shows sideways

I just installed Lubuntu on an ASUS T101HA-GR004T. This took some fiddling because of the Atom hardware platform; isorespin.sh helped me out - gratitude and kudos to linuxium!

    Now I have a...

Re: Connecting photo camera through usb

Hm. Thanks - but I do not want auto-mounting to stop, I want it to begin!
That said, I looked into editing the "dconf" both through the GUI and from the command line. The options referred to in that...

Re: Connecting photo camera through usb

Some additional info: when I plug in the camera, this comes up in /var/log/syslog:

    Connecting photo camera through usb

Formerly, when I plugged USB into my Nikon 5700, there was created a pseudo-disk for it. /dev/sdc or such; and I could mount /dev/sdc1 /mnt_pictures or such and all was fine.
    Now, instead, I am...

Thanks Kelv, I will be looking into that but not right now, several more urgent things on hand. Will report back as soon as I have something to report!

    Wxp under kvm

Running Ubuntu 14.04 and kvm 2.0.0, I have a few virtual machines running nicely. I now want to add a Win XP virtual and I can install it but I cannot get it to have networking.

    console video parameters

Ubuntu server 16.04, 32-bit version. Runs nice, one minor inconvenience: on the console screens (alt-f1-f6) the leftmost character does not show. This is due to the hardware, it also occurs in the...

[SOLVED] Re: from 10.10 to 14.04

Ah, thanks, that's a lesson learned. I do dislike upgrades, as I have indeed no requirement to be at the edge of progress. So I better remain on the xx.04 releases, from now on. One only learns from...

[SOLVED] Re: from 10.10 to 14.04

Thanks, chaps, will have to clean install, then. Can't help feeling disappointed in Ubuntu, though - support for legacy versions is one point where an O/S can stand out from the crowd. HP-UX was...
