    Many have needed UEFI & NVMe firmware updates.
    Check both your system and your NVMe drive for newer versions, even if new system.

    You do have to have drives in AHCI mode, but not sure if that...

    You can use ISO, just not sure if it is as current as ppa.
    The ISO is typically not updated as frequently as the ppa.

    And ESP is FAT16.
    FAT16 is allowed but was more for tiny devices. Ubuntu was in the very beginning using FAT16 for everything but then changed to FAT32.

    Most systems use f12 to get into UEFI/BIOS boot menu to boot USB flash drives.
    The Escape key is for getting grub menu when only one system is installed & grub defaults to booting that system...

    You want UEFI boot, but maybe not UEFI Secure boot. Ubuntu will install with Secure Boot on. But proprietary drivers like nVidia may make it a hassle.

    Some with Lenovo have this UEFI setting or something similar. Allowing USB boot is also not "secure" so it may have a setting to prevent it.
    The Device Guard BIOS setting locks down the boot order...
