Yes, I could turn off the execute bit. What I did at some point yesterday is move the 4 proxies to a sub folder and then ran update-grub - This gave me a menu with ONLY windows - NO linux .

I corrected the first menu item by editing /boot/grub/grub.cfg though I think that will go wonky again if I run sudo update-grub

Upgraded up Mint 21 which removed grub-customizer.
