    Tux in Space

I see that Tux made an appearance in the video from the Dragon 2 cockpit just now, at T + 13 minutes 45 seconds.
    Go Tux!

[ubuntu] Re: Printer setup ain't what it used to be

Just a thought - maybe you have enabled a firewall that blocks the printer's announcements?
I have Ubuntu 20.04 and an HP envy just appears in my printers list. Mildly annoying is that if I rename...

[SOLVED] Re: Static route failing to connect.

Yes, routing is a world all of its own.
I'm happy to see it's working, though I don't understand.

If you have more problems, I think we will probably want a lot more info about your network....

[SOLVED] Re: Static route failing to connect.

Your static route seems to be sending the connection the wrong way. It is sending the connection out of interface enxd03745d06539, to 10.88.88.1. My guess is that 10.88.88.1 doesn't know what to do...

    [ubuntu] Re: Sudo password

It's just not echoing the password as you type. Type it anyway.
It's to stop you being "shoudler-surfed" - people behind you reading it as you type.

Oh, and welcome to the forum.
  6. [SOLVED] Re: Installed on USB disk, but GRUB got installend in internal

There was a long thread about this recently, but I can't find it now. The upshot is that there is a long-standing (years) bug in the Ubuntu installer in that it completely ignores the drop-down...
  7. Re: Did someone log into my PC and edit auth.log entries to cover tracks?

On my laptop, a brief press on the power button brings up a dialogue asking if I want to power 0ff, suspend or reboot (I'm on Xubuntu, but I guess Ubuntu behaves similarly). A long press (maybe 10...

Re: most simple way to restart NetworkManager

I believe that yaml disallows tabs. Ref: section 6.1 here: https://yaml.org/spec/1.2/spec.html#id2777534 :

I just tried python yaml module and it allows tabs equal to 4 spaces.

    Re: new user

That's a nice gentle lightweight intro - for some reason I have not come accross that site before.

One thing I would add. Remember that your home directory (/home/username) is your normal habitat...

Re: Best way to clone HDD to SSD?

    You are probably confusing GigaBytes (1 GB = 1000000000 bytes) with GibiBytes (1GiB = 1024*1024*1024 = 1073741824 bytes).
    480 GB = 480000000000 bytes
    447 GiB = 479962595328 bytes.
    Whatever...

    Re: Behaviour of /dev/sdc

It is possible to place a filesystem directly on a disk (or USB). I think this would be known as a raw disk. This would show up as (e.g.) /dev/sdc.
Alternatively, you can place a partition table on...
  12. [SOLVED] Re: Can't delete or copy files from external hard drive

You are indeed getting the hang of it. Clonezilla runs as root - it has to because only root has the ability to read all the things that are root owned, and you don't want clonezilla to omit things...

    Re: Again? Lawsuit against Linux

Coincidentally, a BBC article on tardigrades: http://www.bbc.com/earth/story/20150313-the-toughest-animals-on-earth
Edit: Oops - duplicate. Shouldn't post that late at night, I guess.
  14. [SOLVED] Re: Ripping flac with SoundJuicer results in inferior sound quality

It may be worth trying Asunder - the default utility provided with Xubuntu. I have used that a lot over the years.

    Re: Again? Lawsuit against Linux

I wonder if the owners are trying to get it bought by IBM. If they're small enough, it might be cheaper for IBM to buy the company than pay its lawyers.
    I still miss GrokLaw.

Re: Ubuntu Server + GUI = Ubuntu Desktop?

I'm not sure, but possibly the server has slightly difference scheduling settings, prioritising overall throughput rather than a responsive GUI.
Apart from that, I don't think there are any other...

[ubuntu] Re: SSH works fine, desktop fails to login

  22. Re: snap should be dropped in desktop versions

  23. Re: Ubuntu trial on USB memory stick as a 'recovery' tool?
