    [ubuntu] Installing Windows

I'm giving my old desktop to my mom, and I want to install Windows 7 and replace Ubuntu with it. SO I basically want no trace of Ubuntu on it haha. Should I clear Ubuntu off of the drive beforehand?...

    Re: Ubuntu Flash Drive Boot

Yes, I was having a brain fart and couldn't think of the word, so I just kinda rambled hoping that someone would understand. xD Thanks.

    Ubuntu Flash Drive Boot

I'm pretty sure that it's possible, I read it somewhere before but I can't find where. I want to install Ubuntu onto a flash drive, not as a live CD kind of thing but my account and stuff on the...

[ubuntu] Re: SSD + HDD Setup

I think I have the SSD formatted well now, I followed those partitions using the "other" option or whatever during installation. I've written down a guide as well, I'll probably post it around. And...

[ubuntu] Re: SSD + HDD Setup

If I were to reinstall how would I partition it first? Clear the SSD and run a live CD (USB) and use Gparted? I'd like to just use the format like you posted, since you seem pretty knowledgeable....

[ubuntu] Re: SSD + HDD Setup

I know how to do that, but you said in advance. I thought that you meant that you could partition it before installing or something.

[ubuntu] Re: SSD + HDD Setup

How do you partition the drive in advance? I would rather do that, so that I don't have to resize swap and everything afterwards.

[ubuntu] Re: SSD + HDD Setup

What is linking and how do you do it? I've never even heard of it. Games are huge, 10-20GB sometimes. I know that most applications are, but is there a way to move them into /home or something? I...

[ubuntu] Re: SSD and HDD setup

As a matter of fact OldFred, your reply on another thread just helped me. The reason that it isn't showing up in Gparted is because the SSD is encrypted. So does this mean that I'm just kinda screwed?

[ubuntu] Re: SSD and HDD setup

Yes, to change swap size. I never use hibernation anyway, the only reason my boot time takes more than 10 seconds is because I had to encrypt it and therefore I have to enter an extra password.

[ubuntu] Re: SSD and HDD setup

I found a deal, 32GB of 1866 RAM for like $80. That's barely more expensive than 16GB, I couldn't pass that up xD But how do I go about changing it? I've tried a couple of things and I can't find...

[ubuntu] Re: SSD and HDD setup

This may be stupid, and it probably has an easy and obvious fix but I figured that I should ask. I still haven't installed the HDD but the SSD that I'm using has been split. One consisting of 34GB...

[ubuntu] Re: SSD and HDD setup

I want to do that, so basically all I do is connect it and make a partition? That seems simple, haha. Gparted is pretty easy to use too. Now, once I make the portion, will it just automatically save...

[ubuntu] Re: SSD and HDD setup

Everyone told me to install the OS first, to make sure that it installed correctly. I don't want to partition it or anything, I just want it to be storage.
