You could use Gparted to create a FAT partition to copy all the files you want to backup while you install Ubuntu. After installing You could choose to keep that FAT partition or remove with GParted....
As it says in the error this drive has been marked "unclean". That usually means if you have Windows installed on that partition it wasn't shut down properly last time you were in Windows.
