    that was going to be step 3. i commented the filesystem out of fstab, then put it back in and ran mount -a and that worked. no clue why but that's easy enough for now.

    Just updated the kernel through automatic update and now I've got no sound and can't mount my 2nd local drive. Posting this here cause I just wanted to bitch don't want anybody to actually expend...

    symptoms: amarok wouldn't allow multiple sound streams, video playback was extremely sluggish with amarok...

    Thanks this looks promising. i'll give it a try after work and post the results.

    I don't expect this will address the random files being appended to the playlist though...that one has me totally...

    Ubuntu Jaunty 64 bit, latest amarok, using ALSA

    Everything was peachy with ALSA and Amarok, had audio from multiple apps at once, no problems.

    I think this started after the recent kernel...

    i'm pretty sure i've seen a disc or two in .img and other formats *magically* work in pSX. they are probably just misnamed.
    basically a .bin file is the only thing you can be confident you'll work....

    if you own a ps2 and want to play through your computer monitor the easiest way (which in linux isn't easy at all) is to get a TV tuner and run your ps2 through that, until there's a working emulator...

    it's probably looking in lib32 for it but for you it would just be in lib?
    just a guess, since this is specifically a howto for 64 bit machines the folders are different.
