  1. Re: Interact with command line through Python

Thanks for the responses guys, I might look into pexpect to see how it does its thing, I'd still rather use some build in python stuff.
  2. Re: Interact with command line through Python

I'm trying to automate a process I use for setting up machines. The process makes use of several command line tools some of which ask for user input half way through running, for example...

[all variants] Re: Looking for good Graphics Card

But aren't ATI graphics cards being open sourced?

Any suggestions re NVidia cards, not after anything super powerful, though would like dual displays and am willing to spend up to £100.
  5. [ubuntu] Re: laptop 2 monitor eyes attention and increase desktop space

Depends on your graphics card. If you have an Intel graphics card you can use Xrandr which is pretty good at getting things right. Also, the Gnome config utility isn't too bad.

  7. Re: What is the best book to learn Python? And best IDE for it.

I found 'Rapid GUI Programming with Python and QT' a really helpful resource and puts you into some decent tutorials pretty quickly.

I'd recommend anything made by cowon, they tend to support more file formats than others (including ogg) and are Linux friendly.

[ubuntu] Re: Hp Deskjet F2280 series scanner not working

Is the photo copy type function in the printer working, if not then there is a hardware problem. Is it printing, if not have you run:
    <code>sudo hp-setup</code>

Let me know how things progress.
  10. [ubuntu] Re: where does everything keep disappearing to?

Normally on a small bar at the bottom of the screen assuming you are using straight Ubuntu (not a derivative ie Kubuntu or Xubuntu).

It could be that the winds are open on a different desktop,...

[all variants] Re: Clustering on consoles

Might be plausible with the PS2's as you could buy a linux version for them however I am not sure what the point would be, as they don't use a standard processor everything would have to be compiled...
  12. [ubuntu] Re: Wine Makes My Ubuntu Appear as Windows?

That isn't the norm. Its the way google has designed picasa, it always defaults to the Windows site. Also, just so you know the linux version of picasa is based on wine. If you wish to go a linux...

    [ubuntu] Re: Gadgets for Ubuntu?

There are. If you use kde then with kde4 you can use plasmoids. In kde3, and I guess gnome, you can use superkaramba. Also there is a program for gnome called gdesklets.

    Hope this helps.

Sorry its not ideal, hope it works out without too much tedium.
  15. [kubuntu] Re: How to set reply-to (like bcc) in Kmail

Umm, if you go into the settings for kmail you can create different identities which can have different reply to addresses. In this case when you go to reply there should be a drop down box at the...

Re: Why Ubuntu (or any Linux) over Windows?

I think everyone on the board will sympathise with your situation. Do you know what wireless card you have, if so people may be able to offer you a solution.

It isn't fair to blame linux...
  18. [ubuntu] Re: Disable updates FOR GOOD - pretty please?

One of the main reasons for updates is to maintain the security of your system. Unless you are manually looking for security updates then I do not think it is sensible to disable the automatic...

  20. Re: How come that Ubuntu is free from Viruses?
