  1. [ubuntu] Re: Lucid: can't open Sofware Sources, Synaptic from GNOME, Update Manager hangs

Thx for your reply, but I was referring to the "taskbar thing appears, disappears, then hangs" behavior I described in the OP.
  2. [ubuntu] Re: Lucid: can't open Sofware Sources, Synaptic from GNOME, Update Manager hangs

I should also point out that clicking "Check" on the Update Manager triggers that "Starting Administrative Application..." taskbar effect.

    Thx for your reply.

First of all, I edited my OP to fix a typo (gksu synaptic).

Then, I REtyped gksu synaptic to see if the behavior I reported in the OP had changed. And, by jing, it had. (I...

[SOLVED] Re: Automount NTFS with user privs (NOT root)

I don't think you understand that neither chmod and chown/chgrp address the problem I'm asking... which is how to *MOUNT* the drive correctly.

[SOLVED] Re: Automount NTFS with user privs (NOT root)

Thank you for trying to help, but your suggestion is backward and unbelievably slow. It's the incorrect approach for a login automount. You're essentially mounting it in the wrong user context,...
  15. [SOLVED] Automount NTFS like Gnome does?: mount is owned by the user, not root

(This is a clarification to a previous question.)

When I mount my NTFS via Gnome, the owner, group and permissions for the mount point are set for *me* (the user doing the mounting), not root.

[SOLVED] Re: Automount NTFS with user privs (NOT root)

Giving EVERYONE FULL ACCESS (your reply) is completely different than assigning to the drive my own user privileges.

I'll repost a new thread with a more specific question.
