    Well,you are the owner of the .deb,so the only thing that comes to mind is data corruption.
    Download the .deb again and see if that works any better.

    Can't say anything about Arch,never used it,but I would go for ubuntu 11.10.
    You've got unity,or gnome-shell and you can add a dock like AWN or something like that.

    But in gNatty the round bars were much thinner and represented [gNatty]my CPU and memory use.
    Now it shows the amount of used space on my hdd.
