  1. [ubuntu] Re: Need help with Duplicity (Deja Dup) .. Ubuntu 18.04

    Hmm, I learned my lesson with using complicated backup tools (Deja-dup was actually he last straw) and consequently I now only use super simple rsync scripts.

    The problem is when things go...

  3. [SOLVED] Re: Not able to get a working xrdp session

    You can install Xorg and configure Gnome to use it instead of Wayland. A little searching will turn up guides for Ubuntu.

    However, this is error prone, so that is why I have not suggested it. ...
  4. [SOLVED] Re: Not able to get a working xrdp session

    Ubuntu normally use Gnome and Gnome normally use Wayland.

    Xrdp needs Xorg.

    If you would install Xubuntu, then Xrdp should work.

  7. [SOLVED] Re: Not able to get a working xrdp session

    It is a server. For X applications, you need to run an X server, but a server usually doesn't have one.

    The Ubuntu server version offers you SSH access by default. You can do anything with SSH. ...

    Re: Anyone use DVDstyler?

    Sounds like the author never thought anyone would make that many DVDs and there is an overflow condition somewhere. You need to install the source code and debug it!
  12. Re: How to deal with noise (hiss) while recording in Ubuntustudio

    Howdy,

    Hiss can come from multiple sources. Firstly, open Pavucontrol and mute all sound inputs except the one you are using. If that doesn't help, add an audio preamplifier before the laptop...
  13. Re: Lasting DHCP problem. Have never found a solution. Help!

    This really is turning into quite a mental exercise. TheFu is correct about ACLs and there is also Mandatory Access Control such as Tomoyo, SELinux and AppArmor which are like ACLs on steroids....
  14. [ubuntu] Re: Problem with the power saving mode - Raspberry Pi 4

    Look at the system log files. That is pretty much all you can do - apart from googling the problem to see whether others also encountered it.
  15. [ubuntu] Re: open gui such as firefox in Multipass with Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS

    Does multipass work with wayland? The wayland developers do not consider remoting a display to be a useful feature to them, so the rest of the world has to use Xorg.
  16. Re: Lasting DHCP problem. Have never found a solution. Help!

    My guess is that your ethernet device name is spelled wrong. Donít type it. Copy and paste it from the ip or ifconfig results.
  17. Re: Lasting DHCP problem. Have never found a solution. Help!

    Pardon, it should be:
    $ sudo dhclient -v exyzn

    You can see the device names with ifconfig or ip addr show and beware of 'o' Oh vs '0' zero.
  18. Re: Lasting DHCP problem. Have never found a solution. Help!

    Try running dhclient with the actual device name, for example:
    $ sudo dhclient -v /dev/enxyzn

    and look a the error messages again.

    Re: Boot Device Not Found

    If you give a removable storage device a volume name, then the system will always mount it the same way. So, just give it a name and let the system do its thing with it.

  22. [ubuntu] Re: How to permanently turn off dedicated graphics card on laptop?

    Unload the device driver with rmmod and see if the system cools down. If not, then it is not the graphic card that is the problem.

    Use lsmod to list the loaded drivers and find the potential...
