    After searching the forum the solution is as follows:

    Boot into recovery mode.
    Choose the root prompt.
    From the root prompt type in the following command


    sudo dpkg remove gnome-mag

    Previously on 10.10 "sudo update-grub" took 2-3 seconds.

    I upgraded to 11.04 and it now takes 10 - 15 minutes.

    Is unity generally much slower than GNOME?

    Any help/pointers greatly...
